Magnitude - The size of the hazardous event. e.g. Richter scale for earthquakes, Saffir Simpson for Hurricanes/Tropical cyclones/Typhoons etc.

Frequency - How often the event occurs in a given time frame. i.e. it is usual to expect 3 major hurricanes in the Atlantic hurricane season.

Distribution - The spatial variation in the hazardous events.
