Can anyone help me with 'resolving many to many relationships'?! I have come across it twice now in past exams and I haven't a clue what it means!

Haven't you checked the specification. if not i got a good news. the Entity relationship diagram and state transition diagrams are removed from the specification.

thats true but just thought i should let you no they can still ask about ERD diagrams under the Synoptic Elements (AS spec) so it still might come up

Thanks for that, but as sophielee123 said, there is the possibility of it coming up and I don't want any nasty surprises haha

There's usually a question about hardware and software developments every year and not sure about the other question could be anything.

There are 4 types you have Entire databases duplicated at each site (replicated) This is a database copied in entirety at each site. So each site has a copy of the database.
Advantages
+Staff have access to the whole database at each site
+ each site is independent therefore problems in one store do not affect the other.
+ All data is stored in at the loacal site so queries will work quicker

Disadvantages
- Whole database requires more storage space at each location
-Difficult to keep copies of each database in sync.
-each database has to be backed up seperately.

Then you have Vertically partitioned database. This is when the database it partitioned on individual fields.

Advantages
+ each site is independent problems in one store do not affect another
+staff only have access to what they need
+ less storage space required.

Disadvantages
-more complex to set up and maintain need a specialist.
-central backup cannot be made, Each site has to be backed up individually.
-Not useful if branch needs information from another branch.

Next, Horizontally paritioned database. This is when the database is partitioned on individual records.
It has the same advantages and disadvantages as vertical partitioned database.

Finally, central databases with remote local indexes.
A central database is only stored in one single location. Each site sotres a local index to allow data to be searched for faster.( one database is soted in one location but other sites have access to it)
Advantages
+ Large storage is only needed in central database
+back ups are easier they are managed centrally
+Can affectively access remote records by using an index rather than a query

Disadvantages
-The system must keep all indexes up to date
-local sites can not customise the database to meet their needs
-Storage will be expensive as it will need to allow multi user access.

Hope this helps you, it took a while to get my head round it but just learn this and you should be ok  good luck!

There is a few that could pop up, impact of external change ( i think this one will come up) Consultation participation and communication (chapter 6) Hardware and software developments very popular. I also think that because this is new to the spec they may throw Discuss implications of being able to communicate from anywhere in the world using mobile technology. Basically anything with a "discuss" in the specifcation can be asked as an essay question. Hope this helps!
Can someone please help me with the structure for the 11 markers please. I know It will be a discuss question but I need to know how to approach it to get full marks....... limited time left :frown:

Oh and if anyone's feeling kind lol could someone explain disadvantages of MIS, cant find any anywhere and scared MIS will come up

hey, for information on any of the topic google teach ict and then navigate this website to the A2 ocr ICT section and it has notes for every topic.

For the 11 mark questions make a point--add an advantage and disadvantage and then implications and impacts of the point you have made. do this for at least 2 points (preferably 3) and add a summary at the end. If you do all of this and use subject specific terminology then you are in the top mark boundry for the question (9-11marks)

douing these two things i have consistantly got 95+ marks on the past papers i have done.

hope this helps

good luck
