North Korea Declares War on South Korea

Although we hope it doesn't reach this stage, we expect the DPRK to ultimately try to use its nuclear weapons. The US will inevitably become involved either way, though, and with China (to the best of our knowledge) being on DPRK's side, we may yet see a new Cold War.

I wonder if it's just the flexing of muscles we're seeing since if North Korea were to launch a weapon, a nuclear one, it would also affect their own people

New hype idea? What do you reckon.

OOC: Might not need one sadly.

OOC: Sorry I'm a bit confused, who is the rep for India? You or PierceBrosnan?

Ooc: I am. PierceBrosnan has kindly stood in for me whilst i'm travelling to ensure the position remains active.

OOC: If you do a quick Google search for "North Korea declares war 2012" you can see just how many times they've declared war in the recent past... I'm not sure that this one will come to anything tbh...
Fiji would prefer if the two countries were to sit down and settle any problems peacefully. However, as this doesn't seem to be possible, we are worried for people of both countries as we want international peace. We wish the countries can resolve the situation. But worry about the future.

In response to the latest threats from North Korea, we shall be moving missile interceptors to Guam, the coast of Japan and the southern Korean peninsula.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan apologises for the delay in response. Perhaps we can clarify our earlier statement on our position regarding North Korea. The statement was not meant to be provocative, and rather just to highlight Afghanistan's feelings towards North Korea, specifically our uneasiness towards their aggression and nuclear advances they are constantly making.
Madagascar watches the developments with concern. Whilst appreciating the need to not be complacent due to the fact that North Korea has issued so many empty threats before, Madagascar wishes nonetheless to ask the US whether moving missile interceptors is necessary, as it will undoubtedly lead to a further response from north Korea, which appears to be looking for any excuse possible at the moment to act further.
The Swiss Confederation echoes the sentiments of the Canadian representative only, we will not be stepping into the conflict unless the developments change to level where danger may occur for Switzerland.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan believes that these declarations of war the DPRK have been espousing are not tolerable for international security. Though we support the USA in their endeavors to make the world a safer place, we question the fact that we are seeing these missile interceptors being moved so close to North Korea. Nonetheless, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan supports the United States in this instance.

The UK and New Zealand both agree with the USA's move to bolster its defences from the increasingly beligerant rogue state that is the DPRK.
Iceland condemns North Korea's actions and urges for a peaceful solution to be settled between both North and South Korea.

China does not sanction the DPRK's rash action - though we see this as a political move as opposed to an actual attempt to invade South Korea. We urge restraint on both sides.

If the DPRK were to engage in military action, it would decidedly not have China's support.

Luxembourg opposes any acts of aggression by the North Korean regime and encourages North Korea to tone down the rhetoric for the good of everyone on the Korean Peninsula.
Nigeria would like to propose a resolution condemning both NK for its unacceptable warmongering and, to a lesser extent, the US for provoking them by organising military exercises in their faces
Are any nations willing to co-sponsor it?

The US is outraged at these accusations of provocation when it is clear that North Korea has been the aggressor. We have merely moved our ships and missile systems into place in the event of a worst case scenario and prior to that we were running annual drills with our South Korean allies. Kim Jon un is only trying to prove himself to the world in striking a threatening posture on the world stage, we have merely taking the correct course of action to prevent the possibility of nuclear warfare.

Australia will not be sponsoring any such resolution. It is clear that North Korea is the aggressor in this situation, and we commend the United States for responding in a proportionate manner.

France deplores this proposed resolution. The United States is maintaining international peace and security, we will refuse to sign a resolution that condemns the US for doing its job as a member of the Security Council. France requests Nigeria rethink its resolution before creating one which may cause increasing tensions, which the whole world could do without at this point.

Canada echoes the statements made by the French and Australian representatives.

Iceland refuses to sponsor this. But proposes that the US, a member of the security council can help establish a peaceful agreement between the Korean peninsulas to help reduce conflict between them and reduce the threat of nuclear warfare in the future.
The Kingdom of Morocco is unwilling to sponsor Nigeria's proposed resolution because of its condemnation of the United States. Morocco stands with her ally, the United States, and applauds the actions taken by them thus far in what has become an increasingly volatile situation.

The Republic of South Africa is disgusted at Nigeria's suggestion, and with respect, wonders why Nigeria has anything to do with the situation. The interests of the United States are obviously only to protect her citizens in Guam and the citizens of South Korea in collaboration with the Republic of Korea Army, and it is deplorable to suggest otherwise. If the DPRK is making threats of nuclear attack the US and ROK have every right to defend themselves.

Frankly, Nigeria, you have your own internal problems to sort out before poking your nose in international issues that don't concern you.
