Loughborough, we do have labs but they are nowhere near the stage where I'm actually capable of understanding how things are done.

Hm okay, so why are you asking when the hands on aspect kicks in if you've been doing labs all this time?

I was thinking more of the time when we will know enough theory to actually design and make our own circuits. As in will it be second year or maybe still in this year.

Usually the first 2 years tend to be heavy on theory because they teach you the meaty content of your degree discipline although in year 2 you start getting a taste for proper group projects where you might make something from scratch.

Years 3 and 4 tend to be where you generally have more freedom to actually do personalised projects from scratch.

Thank you, that helps
Is anyone here a student at Kent, if so how good is the engineering course there

Got a Manchester EEE interview in February. Any tips? What sort of questions - especially technical - do they ask? thanks

Hi everyone,

I'm not quite sure if I'm in the right forum, but I would like to find some advice.
I have just finished my course I did in college and I did IMI Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, this including Functional Skills in Maths and English. I don't have any A levels or GCSEs. I really want to go to uni to do further education, I would like to do automotive or aeronautical engineering. Does anyone know what is the possibility or best steps for me to able to go to a university?

Thank You,

I would say go back to college and redo your English and maths GCSE to a grade C and reapply for apply for uni in a foundation year. (this is the step I would take if most unis don't accept your qualifications)
The other is just look around for unis that will take u

I've applied for ELectronic engineering to Liverpool, Bath, York, Warwick and ucaln. Which would you say are the best? Just waiting for my college to send my ucas form. Got BBBB in maths, physics, biology, English AS and predicted AAA (dropped English). Originally wanted to do physics, but really couldn't see how to apply it in a job outside of research. Then I started to look at engineering. I got an A in the electricity section of physics AS. I realised this was the way to apply physics for me. Not sure if my personal statement is up to much as I didn't realise what I really wanted to do until recently. Hope I get offers!

Hi Michael, thanks for your reply. I thought the same like what you've said, I really want to go back to college and try to get GCSEs and then A Levels. I am 20 years old now, so if I go back to college to do GCSEs I have to pay for the course. Also I thought that I can apply to university by using my IMI level 3 in mechanics. My English tutor said Functional Skills Level 2 is equivalent to C in GCSEs, but I wasn't sure if that is true.

I think your functional skills should be ok but in all honesty look at different university entry requirements

Out of those, I would say Bath and Warwick.

BBBB is a long shot away from AAA, but if you work hard, and give it all you got, it's easily achievable. Good luck.

Hey everyone! I don't know whether to do Electrical Electronic or Electronic Information Engineering. I really want to work in hardware design for a consumer electronics company or a company like Intel or Nvidia and I don't know which degree is best to get there! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Electronic and Electrical engineering encompasses all the sections in that field of engineering with Electronic and information. It covers the electronic side with a specialisation in information engineering. Both will degrees will lead tobyour desired job
