Loughborough Uni Boy:Girl Ratio

Really like the look of loughborough, the facilities and accomodation. My only worry, and i know it may sound weird, is the fact there may be too many guys compared to girls?

Is it always a 'cock fest' and does this make a difference.

I am genuinely being serious, as UCAS website does say their are more boys than girls.

Cheers

No, it's not too many and the vast majority of courses are near enough 50:50; it's only really skewed by engineering so in all your business lectures you'd never notice it.

And as per previous comments from a lot of people the girls are generally above average at Lboro

Isn't it 60:40 male to female ratio since it is known for sports???

 And engineering especially, where the ratio is more like 90:10.
Depends on which course you take. My course is disproportionately female.

Edit: why do people say that girls are above average in Loughborough? I personally haven't noticed it and it doesn't make sense either. "Oh I'm attractive enough... think I'll choose Loughborough this year to make up for the lack of girls there."

Cos they are, in my experience

I visited a mate there for a weekend and what i would say if if you look at the number of 'socially outgoing' type's there's a similar level of males and females (with cracking bodies I may add) I had the same worry before i visited there too.
Some halls are disproportionately male *cough* David Collett.
It all comes down to your course really. Psychology is predominantly female, Aeronautical Engineering only has about 3 or 4 girls per year. The cohort in my course's year has an above-average amount of girls for the course (~75% male, pretty low for Engineering!), so you might be lucky.

The ratio of the Uni as a whole when I joined last year was 2:1 m:f which does sound daunting but in reality it's the engineering department that skews it off, as has been said. I haven't ever noticed a real gulf in girls on nights out or in societies; even my course it doesn't seem noticeable and I study maths!

Also, I am a firm believer that the girls here are hotter. I dunno what the comments above me are on about, it really is noticeable from my point of view that the talent is significantly better than any of my mates uni's I have visited :P

Edit: oh and I know a guy who studies English Language, he has 21 girls and 2 guys in his tutorial groups.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition

Take heed: if anyone tells you that the 2:1 ratio is not noticeable then they are lying. It is hugely apparent, particularly in the Union which is consistently one of the biggest sausage-fests I've ever seen in a club. The university specialises in Sport and Engineering, which causes a much higher number of males. I have no idea why anyone claims the contrary.

When the girls are of a high standard and still a high number you really don't notice. I haven't gone round with a tally chart I admit but I've never ever thought "oh wow there's hardly any girls in here".

Even I've pulled occasionally so it's clearly not an issue at all

This right here.

Whoever said it was a lie to say it's not noticeable, you clearly just need to approach more girls
Why does it being better at sport mean having more male students! What the hell?
my mate goes there, if you don't want a sausage fest then i wouldn't go there unfortunately

More male students probably take sport science or sports related subjects compare to women.

Not directly related to this question, but I'm thinking of Loughborough and I'm worried that there will be loads of people that are fitter being a sports uni. I'm a bigger girl and I don't really know if I'll fit in.

Hi @djuebsja

Although we are pretty good at all things sport, there are lots of students here who aren't sporty at all. If you're interested in taking up a new sport, we have loads of recreational sports where you can do as much or as little as you like. If you're not interested at all, LSU offer lots of things to do that are unrelated to sport. Have a look and see what's on offer that you may be interested in and then you can decide if Lboro is the right fit for you or not.

Hope that helps
