Minutes silence for Thatcher

Why on earth would anyone be stupid enough to "despise" someone simply because they disagreed with their politics? I appreciate there's a lot of weirdos, nutcases and ********s out there, but I don't see why they should be defended on here.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan and Reading chairman John Madjeski have called for football teams to hold a minutes silence for Thatcher this weekend.
In my opinion this must not happen. Ignore what she did, but sport and politics should not mix. Holding a silence would be making a huge political point.
I am against anyone celebrating her death but people should not be forced to respect her, especially someone with very tenuous links to football.
She is possibly the most divisive PM ever and a minutes silence would certainly not be observed fully.
I've never disrespected a minutes silence before but I certainly would take exception if it were to happen.
Furthermore, none of Wilson, Heath or Callaghan received a minutes silence. Why should she?

For people so keen to blame Margaret Thatcher for any shortcomings under her government, it seems odd that you apparently cannot recognise the heirarchical relationship of our civic structures and the responsibility that brings. She was quite different to a civil servant.

A lot of people seem to be hating on her despite being seriously young, as in younger than me which I find pretty hilarious since many of them probably just jumped on the bandwagon of hating Thatcher because it seems fashionable to them.

And no I'm not comparing the two, its the fact you said we can't detest someone because we're 'too young' and just jumping on the 'bandwagon'.

Because many people were worse off because of her! Many people lost their jobs etc etc. Many suffered poverty etc. That's why.

Agree entirely, but this also applies to people supporting her who were born after her time as PM. "Look at me everyone I have a different opinion to the majority"

I just want to offer some clarity on this situation. Not that I'm defending Thatcher for blaming the Liverpool fans, it has to be said that Thatcher only blamed them because the police told her that Liverpool fans were at fault.

Essentially, the police lied to her to cover their own arses. Thatcher didn't know; and only went on what she was told by the police and the press. Thatcher didn't intentionally blame Liverpool fans.

Pretty much. People who like to play "revolutionary." The sort of people who love to idolise Che Guerra even though he was a mass murderer.




Using the Hitler argument is just ridiculous. Frankly many people are jumping on the bandwagon, many people who were never touched by anything Thatcher did. They just hate her because it's trendy and the in thing to do. It's stupid.

Rubbish. She knew it was a failure of the police and her governmentand tried to cover it up.

I'm just going on from what I've looked into. The government concealed the failures of the police because their one-sided argument was all the police pitched to them. The government either didn't get the opportunity to factor in the Liverpool fans, or felt satisfied enough with the police's verdict to back the police; even though they lied through their teeth.

Many people were not touched by what Hitler did. Many people were not touched by what the South African aparthied did. Many people were not touched by what Stalin did.. need Icontinue?
Are these all band wagoners? Why is it a ridiculous argument?
it's so naive to say they just hate her because of a bandwagon. I hate her because I disagree with her political actions hugely as do the majority of people who dislike her.

Because comparing Hitler and Thatcher is the most absurd comparison, one started a world war and tried to annihilate a race, one had political policies in a democratic state that some disagreed with.
