English answering questions on a passage

How can i start my answer, i always use "the author uses descriptive language when...."

What other devices do authors use that i can write about instead of descriptive language?

Please list some if possible! :smile:
Metaphors, imagery/symbols, juxtaposition, double-entendres, connotations...also make sure you mention the tone of the piece of writing and themes :smile:
