I was wondering whether someone could explain to me what the gaps between lines in spectra represent and the colours of the line please.

I suspect the reason you've had no reply is that your question is a little vague.
In order to answer what might be the question, it seems necessary to have to explain what line spectra are and what colour is from 1st principles. That's rather a lot for anyone to have to post here.
Can you be more specific?
In particular we need to know
Have you studied
* the theory of electron energy levels in atoms
* the fact that light photons can excite electrons in atoms to move to higher levels
* electrons can move down to lower levels and emit photons as a result?
