Applications to access 2013 and university 2014!

Hi all,

I'm not actually new to TSR, had to get myself banned due to a stalker ex and so here I am with a new name...

Anyways, I'm looking to apply for an access course at Notts (science access), and Leicester College, did get in 2 years ago but worked instead and hoping to make a go of this time round.

I'm looking to apply for the dual degree in nursing at DMU and if I don't get this course will quite happily choose a single nursing degree.

I hope this thread gets everyone talking to each other and you never know you might get to make a friend on the same access course as you before September!

Hello!
I've applied to do an access to nursing and midwifery in September. I was very late submitting my forms so am due to have my interview on Wednesday with the tutor, I had my skills tests around 10 days ago.
My long term plan is to study adult nursing at DMU from 2014 although children's nursing appeals to me also.
I'm currently firing off lots of part time applications for HCA level 2 jobs to gain some experience but I also want to volunteer at our local Age Concern
I'm very, very scared at the whole process. I'm a married mum of 5 and this change is going to totally change my current family life on its head!! Children understand that belts will be tightened and treats will be few and far between and I need to do this for me now since I've dedicated the last 13 years to them.
Is anyone else as worried as me? I am the worlds worst pessimist and failure scares the life out of me!!!

I have my interview for an Access Course at City College Norwich next month. And then hoping to go onto UEA the following year to study English Literature. It's a little scary as it means working part time rather than full time but I'm so passionate about what I'll be studying, and I've really missed being in a learning environment. I can't wait.

Me too!
Will be starting my access course in September and I really hope (fingers crossed) that I will start Uni in 2014.

Am looking to go to uni fairly close to home so probably Oxford Brookes as my 1st choice then branching out a little further.
With a family, husband, etc going too far away is not an option.

Good luck to everyone, I'm excited about starting this journey and can't wait to get started.

I'm starting an Access to Science course in September & can't wait!! I studied half of one in 2008/09 but fell ill & had a lengthy stay in hospital, meaning I had to drop out :frown:
At least I have a bit of a head's up on how it'll be

Hoping to study Anatomy & Human Biology in Liverpool or Anatomical Sciences in Manchester altho; it's gonna be tough to get into those courses. I want to go into Biomedicine eventually but would prefer a broader degree first

I'm 30 btw. My ultimate dream is Pathology but you have to do a medical degree first then specialise etc. so I'd be around 45 by the time I qualified - hardly worth it plus, I have 5 children at home & it's not exactly practical!

I received a confirmation letter that I have a place on an Access to Teaching course at NCN this year and have my first meeting tomorrow. I am planning on going to Nottingham Trent to study Primary Education.

I'm a 22 year old male so will around 28 by the time I can actually teach, daunting!
Hey!!

I am starting an Access to Science course in September. Hoping to do a Maths degree leading onto teaching after that. I did do a Civil Engineering degree however I dropped out in 2009. Currently 26 so will be teaching at the age of 31. Looking at universities nearby (York, Durham, Leeds etc)

Hello Everyone,

I went for my interview today for Access to Medicine and Medical Bioscience at City and Islington College. I was given an unconditional offer today and start in September! My plan is to do the Biomedical Degree after the Access but will have to apply to all London Unis as I am a single mum living in London and my own mum is unwell. My choices will be limited and competition will be high, but I know I am capable!....

Best of luck to you all in your applications!

Mel.

Hi! Any advice on what and how to revise for the maths assessment text for the access course? (I would like to do an access in science and health, I need level 2 maths). Books to revise? Since I'm Italian I would prefer books...but I don't know which ones (CGP or collins) and level (foundation, higher...maybe both..)
Hope someone will help me!

I've just applied to do a HEFC. Which I believe is the same as an access course. I'm going to be doing a science related course and hope to study astronomy or something related. Unfortunately because I have to stay near my home town I only have Northumbria uni to apply for

So I have a place dependant on proof of my GCSEs which I have lost! Sent off for replacements at the cost of around £100 :frown: Seems a good course though, intense but fun. Everyone who has taken the course the past 2 years has got into the university they wanted to do the course they wanted which is really positive.

How do you go about ordering replacements? I've lost mine and I need them to prove I got a C in English so I don't have to do that part of the course.

I had to contact the examinations officer and ask what boards were used when I would have taken my exams, mine were AQA and OCR. Then go to their website, print off the form and send it off with the money. Really simple but expensive.
I'm planning to do an access course at the University of Derby in September (although I think I've left a bit late to apply) so I'm off to the information event next month! To the people who applied and got a place; what is the application process like? any advice would be much appreciated x

Would have thought the application for the access course would be the same as college, no? You don't need to apply through UCAS with it being at a university or anything?

I only applied for my access course about 2-3 weeks ago and now have an offer on the course after attending a meeting. Had a letter through asking me to go along for an informal chat, went along met the course leader and a few others starting the course, got offered a place. Really easy and helpful.

Same with me I applied in January had an interview for march but didn't recieve the e-mail re-arranged for April went to an informal meeting on Wednesday got offered a place now just need to enrol in August start in September that easy  though some colleges may do pre-access courses which are a month long and involve some work just to test your eligibility
Ah right! I can't do access courses at the colleges because of my age but the minimum age at my local uni is 19! if I had the choice between uni and college I would choose uni as it will give me the uni experience for when I go onto my degree (eek)

Still can't believe I'll be a mature student at 20 if I get onto the access course :frown: doesn't feel right!

Hi I'm new to this so could do with a bit of advice. I'm looking at doing an access course in september and then go on into health. What I could do with is maybe a list of books I could buy or go and have a look at regarding the access study and exams. Its been many years since I even looked at a math or english book so if anyone could point me in the right direction id be very greatful
