Why do people say anal sex is 'not normal'?

This is a genuine question, aimed at the homophobes who like to accuse gay men of being sexual delinquents.

Homophobes will say that anal sex is abnormal (despite the fact that many straight people practice it) and that penises are not supposed to enter that part of the body.

Yet penises are not supposed to enter mouths, either, yet I bet most straight men have received blow jobs at some point in their lives.

So why the sudden change of agenda?

Both are perfectly normal if it causes pleasure and is legal.

To quote DNA, three reasons: ignorance, stupidity, and nothing else.
No matter how you look at it, we evolved the anus as an out hole, not an in hole.

That it feels good is simply good luck.

is your ass a one way street..
Well anal sex in straight people, oral sex, masturbation and even fingering your lady in foreplay are considered sexual deviancy (like by the catholic church for example) but over time such practices have become more accepted (or expected), likely because of the porn industry... The **** women are asked or expected to do... And a guy wants to complain about going down on her once in a while...(sorry, that's another argument...h

It is unfair though for someone who is ok with anal between straight people to cite anal between gay people being unnatural as a reason for their homophobia. Got to come up with something less hypocritical.

I mean, if my boyfriend wanted to try it I would let him live the fantasy at least once, though in all honesty, let's face it, a dick is not meant to go in there. Also it's kind of dangerous especially if you have a sensitive digestive tract, unaware that you're 'backed up' in the colon/rectum. I've torn and uh... Have you ever seen a rectal prolapse? Google it.

Honestly, I am NOT a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but no one like to be told anything they do shouldn't be accepted or that it is deviant. That's the selfish nature of human beings. I mean in 50 years maybe necrophiles will be on their soapbox saying their practises should be accepted or something. I know it's a bit of a jump but you get my drift.

Obviously they haven't had anal sex, or if they have they didn't do it right. :holmes:

Because they spend far too much time obsessing over other people's sexual habits. Anal sex might not be abnormal, but that is.
Normality is defined as conformance to an average. The average adult has inserted, or has had inserted into them, a penis into the mouth or vagina. This is therefore normal. Although there are many examples outside this average, they are far outweighed by the rest and are therefore, abnormal.
I've never tried it but I don't think its unusual.
Its just "another way", so to speak.
Whether heterosexual or homosexual, its their desire, and it would be unfair to be hypocritical and judgemental (specifically for this issue). I personally think homophobes are selfish and narrow-minded people, hence I don't have many homophobic friends.

Some people don't find it entirely attractive though. I personally wouldn't want it to be my first option because I'm genuinely a bit unsure about how I will feel during the act. Not only that, I wouldn't want to risk having rectum problems and prolapses.

This. Not a fan myself, but it doesn't affect me IN THE SLIGHTEST if other people do it, so why should I care?

I think it comes from fear - many people are afraid of the unknown, many others are afraid of the fact that they themselves want to partake in things which they have been told are wrong - they are afraid of their own feelings:

At an anal sex club, who's abnormal then?

Normality is defined as conformance to an average. If you're going to choose a self selected sample, you will get different results.

The point, surely, is that what's implied by 'not-normal' here is abnormal. According to the definition you want to insist on it is not-normal to have a May birthday, play the bassoon, or enjoy maths. Still, none of these is regarded as abnormal.

It's not a definition I simply insist on, it's the correct definition. It's not abnormal to have a May birthday, but it is abnormal to play the bassoon or enjoy maths, if the sample is the population on the UK. Whether they're regarded as abnormal or wrong is irrelevant. The fact is, they are abnormal.

oh right. Is anal sex 'abnormal' only in the same way that playing the bassoon might be, then? Because that would seem harmless enough.

All i'm going to say is that fecal matter and vaginas don't mix. (Yes I know about douches). To me it seems like poking the hornet's nest.

I'm not allowed to give sex tips and positions, but I feel I should point out that anal sex doesn't involve an anus with a vagina :s-smilie:
