related t-test formula

This should probably be in the maths forum, but I'm in need of a quick answer and I don't think the maths forum is the place to go for that. What I need to know is, if this is the t-test formula;

∑d

t = √ (N ∑d² - [∑d] ²)
N-1

I get that you have to the do the sums in the top line (N ∑d² - [∑d] ²), divide the answer by N-1, and then square root that. But how does the top bit, ∑d, fit into the calculation?
Thanks in advance for any help x
