The Student Room Group

Whats been going on?

Okay, Im a current year 12 student. What has Michael Gove put in place that will affect me? Am i still able to retake these summer exams, next year?
Someone please explain to me why he is doing this?
All I know is AQA are trying to raise the standards and so are trying to stop retakes of tests. That's all I know! I also know the Michael gove is planning to make the school day longer and holidays shorter.

Im a year 12 student aswell, no we cannot re-take these tests.

Point of the reform is to make A levels harder and thus more credible qualifications.
I am in year 13 and our year 12s were actually talking about this today.

If you have any lessons that made you sit an exam in january, this is no longer alllwed, Michael Gove has got rid of all january exams.

From what i know you are still allowed to re-sit an exam but it will have to be done at the end of the year and most students wont want to do this because they will be sitting their year 13 exams, hence the reason for him getting rid of january exams; fewer people wanting to re-sit

The two key things you need to know:

- No more January exams AT ALL.
- You can only sit/resit exams during the summer exam period.
