A first from Kings will get you a job with a top city law firm. A 2:1 probably will too, but you wouldn't have a problem getting a job with "the second tier" of law firms, as it were.

Hey people!

Am I right in saying that Kings College is probably in the top ten universities in the country? I've heard it really is one of the best for law degrees too....in other words a first from Kings would be the equivalent of a 2.1 from Oxbridge maybe?

Or am I completely disillusioned?

I'm not sure if things work like that, really. I'd hope that a first from King's would be classed as better than a 2:1 from Oxford or Cambridge, but then you have to consider prestige, and it also depends on what subject you're doing.

King's is definitely up there anyway, and law really is well renowned here.
I wouldnt say kings is an elite university!! Just just behind the elite universities in this country!!
The elite bracket include Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, IMP and warwick!!
Sorry its hard to take but is the truth!!

Id even rather to Soas now over Kings!! Kings reputation isnt as gd as what it use to be!!

Bul****e! Complete bul****e! I can't be bothered to go into further details because its already been rehashed so many times but Kings is an excellent uni for Law and sits just below Oxbridge.

I thought that was right Baadshah.

Wow.....I remember reading that KINGS LAW thread were you couldn't wait to get your offer. That was great. I'm so glad your in. As I say, it's my dream to go to kings. I get the impression that it's a really nice place and is more friendly than most top unis.

If my dream comes true.....then you will be in your final year when I start right? I'm in my final year of secondary school, about to do GCSE's.

Its your dream? A few months ago if that you were posting about how you wanted to go to a university which was close to you, cant remember which and work in a local firm, your dreams change fast.

I can explain that quite easily......I doubted myself.

I assumed i'd never ever get into somewhere like Kings College so I thought "why apply?"

However, I have seen from other posts that it really isn't out of my reach at all. I just realised I could aim higher if things go at there current rate.

And i'm still not sure if i'd like to work in an MC firm though......more than likely i'll come back to Brighton and get a Training Contract down here if all goes to plan. You see all of this big city work, correct me if i'm wrong, is all business and commercial law.....and I don't think that looks interesting personally.

But who knows......yes, who knows:biggrin:

Hope that's cleared that up.

Hi Baadshah, so glad your ordeal is over, and you're in...I remember all that waiting back in ?March. You get to quit your boring job soon...I've got to find something for a couple of months myself and earn some $$.
To Poland...I think a first is a first is a first...looks terrific anywhere. Isn't there some sort of system which works to equalize firsts from different universities? Also, there's rank everywhere you go. If you get into Penn it's better than UVA...but Penn isn't as good as Yale...etc. Of course it's not enough to say that, though, because then you have to argue over is Yale Divinity School better than Yale Law School? Over in the UK, there is an ongoing discussion of which are the G5, or is it G6? Is KCL included? Can you include LSE in the same argument because although it's excellent, is it a special case because it's a specialist institution? In Oxford and Cambridge, I imagine there are protracted arguments over which colleges are good/better/best? The problem is that there isn't a definitive answer, although it's fun to speculate for a while. Whatever course you are on, enjoy it.

Just seen the link for the times university guide. places KCL 17th! What the hell is that about????
It's just how you read it Baadshah...7th in one, 17th in another...It's all pretty subjective in the end. All quite rubbishy in my opinion. It's what you do with it anyway, go out there, knock 'em dead with a first, then nobody's arguing (except anal retentives).

It depends on the course you intend to study...I wouldn't say UCL is "elite" for e.g. Economics. For Economics, it is clearly Oxbridge and LSE...
elite? we're 17th :—(
