Newquay for 16 year olds!

Im a 16 year old guy and Im going to Newquay after my GCSEs with 5 mates. Im staying in Smugglers Haven in a caravan and 20 others from my school are going too. Im going for the first week of July and just wanted to know what its like, what is there to do for some one my age, and things like what will the other people be down there like? Is there any crime which could effect me like muggings, fighting and street violence. Im basically just looking for any kinds of advice for Newquay?

I'm heading down there too. Smugglers Haven has a bit of a reputation for being full of drunken kids so you should have a laugh, but just make sure you're careful and don't make enemies of anyone. Just make friends with the people around you when you arrived and you'll be alright.

During the day you can just go to the beach, surf, wander around the town, take in the atmosphere etc. Just relax and enjoy it, see what each day brings. In the evenings just head into town and see what's happening. There's a few under 18s club nights, not sure how good they are but if that's where all the other people your age are then you may as well try it. Seeing as you're staying at Smugglers Haven though, you'll have a great time just socialising with other kids on the camp site.

In terms of crime and whatever, just be sensible. Don't wander around on your own at 4 in the morning, watch out for anyone that looks dodgy and don't get yourself into a dangerous situation. There's a really big Police presence in Newquay nowadays because of the issues the area has had in the past, so you're unlikely to come to too much harm.

I'm sort of bound by the forum rules on this bit, but the Police are really strict on underage drinking in Newquay so just err... behave accordingly.

Loads of kids go to Newquay after exams, you should have a great time.

Yeah same here, Im just waiting to see whats down there! Plus even if the U18 nights are crap I'm sure everyone will just go to the beach or whatever!
I'm going too, the organised events aren't the best. They're organised to keep teens from underage drinking etc, but they're safe and you can have a good time. As well as the organised stuff if you head to the beach at night there are loads of bonfires/BBQ parties. I'll be spending most of my time at the beach, the atmosphere is so chill it's a really great week

Yeah I've heard good things about the surf there, looking forward to getting out there again. How busy do you reckon it will be at Fistral at night?

Haha don't worry about it! Yeah I hope so, looks like a great place. Ah nice, you should have a laugh. Have you been before? Don't suppose you or any of your lot are 18...?

Don't worry, was a bit of a longshot! You're so lucky, I'd love to have family there. :'( I bet it is, looks like so much fun. I've never been to Newquay, but I've been to another part of Cornwall every year over the summer since I was about 8.

I love Cornwall, we normally visit St. Ives as we've got a house there. We live in Devon so can visit whenever the weather is nice. But I love Newquay, and the Run for the sun festival is the best! Have fun this summer!
In terms of Police alcohol searches in Newquay... How strict are they? Am I going to get stopped in the street and have to unpack my rucksack and get my board out of it's case, or do they just do it at the train station/airport? Not going to risk taking drink because I'm underage, I'd just quite like to avoid being forced to get all my crap out of my bag in the street if I can avoid it.

Newquay's really great, I've been the last two years and always had a sick time! With things to do I'm probably not much help as during the day I'm only there for the surf. I think that's the same with most people though and it's so much fun that unless the wave's are crap you don't need much else.

The only thing is they are really strict with underage drinking at times, if you bring your own you're normally alright but you wont get served anywhere unless everyone your with has ID. I went last year with two people who were 18 and every time they brought anything they were asked if it was for them and one of them got told that they can radio the police from the shop. I also think the supermarket wont even sell alcohol after a certain time. It doesn't really matter though cause there are so many underage people that you all just end up chilling on the beach and meeting new people.

Buzzing to go for the first time as a legal adult though!

When are you going down? I'll be surfing from the 26th of August to the 7th of September - gonna be toasty, time to dig out the 2mil wetsuit for the first time in a few years!

I'm going down Monday for a week  It's meant to be cooler there though which sucks a little but I literally don't even care I just need to be at the beach and surf.
