Is that a real risk and do the other parts look okay?

Genuinely, if it does mess up, it could damage the components, cheap psu's aren't really the wattage they state, and are below that, and well generally even coming close to that 500watt it will shut down or overtime the components just give out. Novatech has a decent range.
Hi, so I'm a console gamer looking to move over in pc gaming. I just wanted to ask how long a high end gaming laptop, such as the cyberpower fangbook evo x7-200 (which I'm looking at), would last.

I'm just leaving the config as is

Thanks, these look great. But my real worry is how long they will last

It depends on the games you play, how well you treat the laptop as well, and with games stored on a ssd, longevity will be better, obviously not as great as on a desktop but gtx75m and higher should last a good few years, with a ssd i dont really think you'd have to drop your settings too much over time.

What a coincidence, my brother's PC's PSU literally just exploded, he basically switched off the step down transformer and I think it drew too much current or something. Funny that it should happen just after you said it!

Yes its funny isn't :colone:
But a good, reliable psu is very important for a stable system
Hey guys, you helped me out with building my own PC a few months back, and everything has been going great with it! That being said, it's definitely past time that I gave it a bit of a clean and dust-off. I've googled a few methods but i'm still a bit apprehensive about cleaning inside my case, so are there any pointers you can give me? Any things to avoid when cleaning?

Thanks for your time!

Well I tend to remove any dust covers and hoover them...........cotton buds on the fans, and just carefully picking out large bits of dust to one side and hoovering it up......

£669 from Scan

Butttttttt. if i buy the parts seperately and assemble them myself it comes to £520. then again no scan warranty for peace of mind.

looking for a PC to run Bf3, and hopefully BF4 in the fall. may have to upgrade graphics for BF4?

There is warranty however individually speaking, so its good to buy from as few places as you can.

gtx660 should max out a bf3 around 37-42, I expect a larger than normal drop in frames per second with the next game in the series because of the new consoles which are significantly more powerful or simply a few fps if they simply just improve the graphics on the consoles as console graphics are behind pc graphics anyway. So hopefully you might get around 30+ fps.

Ah didnt realise the mobo doesnt support cpu, what would you recommend instead of this one, also planning on doing some light gaming on it as well as just a upgrade to my laptop, and planning on it being a computer i can upgrade over time.
Thats quite a nice graphics card but would the Psu im currently thinking of be suitable if i upgraded the graphics card to that?

minimum is 450watt psu for it........Nvidia cards are better on power efficiency
Hi guys!

I'm not a complete computer noob, but I'm not exactly as clued up as I'd like to be when looking at building my computer, which a friend has persuaded me to do. He's given me a bit of guidance on what parts to get, but I thought I'd check with you guys as well, to see if it all looks OK. I do play quite a few games, but they tend not to be too graphics intensive. I've enjoyed the Elder Scrolls series, but mostly I tend to play RTS/turn based games (Total War and Civilisation being favourites). Other than that I just use the computer for normal internetting, word processing, skyping etc.

Casecom CB-191 Black Mid Tower Case
OCZ 500W CoreXStream PSU
Intel Core i5 3470 3.20GHz Socket 1155 6MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
Gigabyte GA-Z77-HD3 Socket 1155 DVI HDMI VGA 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
Extra Value 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ CL11 1.5v
Gigabyte GTX 650 1GB GDDR5 VGA Dual DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card

Total comes to just under £400 on ebuyer, which seems to be as near enough cheapest as to make it not worth getting from various sources. I've got a few questions:

The case is very cheap, but I don't plan on doing anything fancy, I just want it to hold the bits of my computer and hopefully not have them overheat. Is it OK?
The RAM is generic value stuff. Will it be OK?
I'm looking at monitors (damn they're expensive). Any advice? A friend is advocating IPS screens coming in at about £100-120. Bit more than I'd like to spend but that does seem to be how much they cost...
I actually budgeted for maybe £50-100 more than I'm currently looking at. Have I missed out anything I might want? Is there anything you'd upgrade now for about that difference to make it "last" another year for the sort of things I'm looking at?

Thanks!
