Just tried it with the CPU power unplugged so just the mobo and PSU and it turns on for a couple of seconds then powers off. The CPU fan works.
Ah that really is a shame, I assumed my CPU would fit into another motherboard easily. In that case I guess it's more beneficial long-term to buy a new motherboard + a new CPU. Hopefully I can salvage some costs back from my old i5 and my old graphics card.
There's a £67 gigabyte motherboard on Amazon, Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard, would that be suitable?
I'm thinking of branching out and getting the Intel Core i5-7500 3.80 GHz QuadCore 6 MB Cache CPU, which is £185 - will this fit the motherboard and work with everything else?
EDIT: Nvm, it's not available for prime so wouldn't be here tomorrow. Anything similar to this? I wouldn't mind downgrading.
EDIT 2: I checked eBuyer and after a long deliberation I've bought these:
1 x Intel Core I5-7500 3.40GHZ Socket 1151 6MB Retail Boxed £159.12
1 x Asus Intel PRIME B250-PLUS LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard £74.15
1 x Cooler Master HTK-002-U1 HTK Performance Thermal paste £2.49
VAT of £48.82
TOTAL = £292.90
I triple checked that this would all function properly so hopefully I'm right.
Paid for next day delivery before noon so hopefully once I configure everything together I will have a working PC.
Will update tomorrow.
