Studying in US for a year. Bank help?

I'm studying in Upstate NY for a year come August and was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for banking in the US? Such as transferring student loan from UK account etc

I would advise you to e-mail or phone the International Students' office at your college. They have experience not only on the best way to do this, but how the banks in the area handle international banking. Many banks in the States are regional, and in rural areas they may not have as international support.

Ooo. Where upstate? I grew up there. I don't know what bank you use in the UK, but I know Bank of America has some kind of partnership with Barclays.
