Any medics ever have any luck with charitable trust grants?

Just wanted to ask any medical students past or present if they've had any success (or lack of) in applying for grants from charitable trusts.

I'm going to be financially independent and studying medicine as my second degree, so I won't be eligible for a second tuition fee loan. I know there are a number of charitable trusts that offer grants to medical students (such as the BMA - but only for clinical years I think).

Has anyone got any advice on how to structure a letter requesting funds?

I'll be living on my own or with friends, and be getting no support from parents. I am 24 and have been in full-time work for 3 years. I have little savings, and the maintenance loan I receive won't even cover the tuition fees. So I'm looking into any possible help.

PM me if you would like to give me some tips. Thanks.
