History Applicants - 2014 entry!

Im thinking about it since my other two subjects are sociology and psychology (ignore english).
I assume history is more employable in the general market than the social sciences.

On res day if I dont get good enough grades, I just wont go.

History is no more employable than a social science course, what matters more is getting experience and an overall strong application when applying for jobs

So choose the subject you will find most enjoyable as you study it for 3 years.

And to answer your other question any Russell Group/1994 Group uni would be 'good' just look at what courses you like the look of and grades- most top unis want AAA-AAB for History.

Whichever you'd find more interesting so have a look at course profiles and modules. I'd say History and IR compliment each other more/overlap in terms of Historical events e.g. the Cold War

I'd say it depends on the type of History you prefer. Personally I like international relations more than social history so I'd go for that, but it depends on your own preferences. :smile:

I'm thinking of applying too: Cambridge (AS grades is going to determine this), Royal Holloway, Kings College atm...need to think about the other two :smile:

I really enjoy Renaissance and Medieval history! :love:

Not the greatest fan of modern history so anything Pre 1800s is ideal :biggrin:

If you like Renaissance history consider Warwick, which specialises in that topic. There is a 'Renaissance stream' of students who not only study Italian from the start, but spend a term in Venice in the third year.

Hi, I hope to study History at hopefully a Russell group university! Depending on my as results , although I think I've failed history, despite revising the most for it I just panicked in my exams! :tongue:

I'm starting an AHE in humanities in sept and applying for 2014 in November, Manchester Met sounds the best to me so far as i don't really want to travel too far and from the looks of the courses anyway it looks the most promising bearing in mind, it has to keep me interested for three years!

I'm thinking of either History or Medieval and early modern History :biggrin:

Me too! In both my exams I panicked ( we don't do jan exams) , which I'm a but pi**ed off about bearing in mind I revised and prioritised for more History. But if I have to retake ,then I'll retake!

Yeah I did, the woman said the Cornwall campus is less popular due how far it is,so the entry requirements are slightly lower and also they pay £500 for student travel costs due how far it is! :smile:

since no one is replying to my thread ill post here....Im basically stuck between History at Nottingham or History and Sociology at Warwick as I have offers from both and running out of time.....they both are very good unis. I personally only care about the course and if I will enjoy it or not...Nottingham seems to have a fuller course and I do prefer History over Sociology...do Postgrad requirements look down upon combined honours students if I decide to go Warwick for example? and is sociology generally considered a bad degree to do/is it looked down upon compared to history?...im really torn and dont know what to do. Im also interested in factors such as research output etc and ive heard that warwick is more commerically interested which is putting me off. I really dont care about the city location of these unis though a little info would be good. I know nottingham is a better city to live in but it really does not affect my decision.

Im From Nottingham and I've been to the uni for this law workshop and overall it's a very good uni, and town itself is fairly cheap and some pretty decent nights out! Plus I think Nottingham is ranked 6th best uni in the u.k? Plus Nottingham have a year abroad opportunities and its fairly diverse, and very well regarded for History!

Although, Warwick too is a great uni ( I don't know much about it) but go for what's best for you! Where do you see yourself staing for 3 years and essentially calling "home"?
