Yeah we have started with Kinetics and Equilibrium maths stuff on rates.

We've done some practicals for reducing ketones to alcohols and the theory behind it, that's it so far

I haven't done that yet and I don't think it's planned, I know I am making asprin and soap when I get onto the stuff to do with the benzene ring .

Any chance you can share the theory on this reaction please?

Sorry I meant the theory behind the practical, we've not gone into the detail yet but all I know is it's nucleophilic addition
We've done kinetics and nucleophilic addition too

I thought I read the thread title wrong for a minute!

Early bird catches the worm, as they say.

My college will be starting Unit 4 Kinetics shortly.
When is everyone getting their textbooks? My college will issue us in Sept.

Hi can anyone help me on question 8b: http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/subjects/AQA-CHEM5-QP-JUN12.PDF

How do i make the half equations. I thought O2 normally gets reduced OH- i dont get where the H20 comes from:'(

Seems like every centre is doing something different, would you like to exchange class notes after the 3 weeks?
Wow, this is really early  haha, but yeah, CHEM4 is looking great so far!
We're doing Kinetics & Nucleophilic tooooooo!

Ethyl ethanoate = pear drop flavouring.
Too cool.

Right, I know it's a bit soon.. But could someone explain how to find the moles in question 1a of the June '12 Unit 4, because it's got me stumped. And it's probably the easiest question ever :P
Thanks in advance!

I don't get it aswell, I think there is more to it than normal mole calculations.

I got as far as:

1.5+1.2=2.7
(2.7-2.06)=0.64

not sure how you work out the moles for each H2 and I2.

I know that the answer adds upto 0.64 so there is some link.
