Hi guys its me again, I know I made a lot of threads but this is the last I promise lol
Ok I recently enrolled to study psychology bsc degree with the ou, I haven't finished my enrolment yet as I'm on the last stage of completing student finance. Ok my question is do you think I would have more career options if I do criminology psychology studies degree instead?
Do you want to be a psychologist? If so then BSc Psychology. The BSc Psychology with Criminology doesn't make you eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, which you need, unless you do a conversion course afterwards.
I would have to do further study to become a psychologist and will have to do my masters which I can't, as I'm nearly 27 :-( and god knows how old I will be by the time I finish lol just wanted to know which degree will bring me more career opportunities really?
Or even think about which organisations you might like to work for. Public or private sector ? Police, healthcare, probation service, businesses etc. Then look at what those organisations might be looking for from potential employees. Go crazy on google basically. Just googling "becoming a criminologist" for example might throw up useful leads or lines of enquiry. This is perhaps the sort of information you might use to choose which subject and which degree you wish to work towards.
Have a look on youtube for ' ljmuwow' there are via from 3 girls who done psychology ans psychology/criminology and about how their career paths have gone since studying. It is really informative and they good tips.

What dg2009 says is really important. If I were you, I would go for the BSc in Psychology if your not passionate about entering a field related to criminology. A psychology degree that makes you eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership is the standard these days.
Also, 27 is not too old. Think about it, you could achieve your doctorate by your mid thirties and pursue a career that you enjoy rather than growing old with regret. However, as you may have heard numerous times, becoming a psychologist is a lot of hard work and a long process (and it's very competitive). You need to be completely commited to succeed. On the other hand, don't let this put you off. Personally, I revel in the competition, as it makes me work harder.
I'm 24 and currently studying BSc psychology at the OU. It's the best decision I've ever made. I want to pursue an academic career in research, in the neuropsychology field. Thus, I never considered taking the combined criminology and psychology degree.

Just watching the 2nd video now. It's quite interesting to tell the truth, I don't know the 1st thing about Psychology (I'm really considering taking level 1) So work experience is the key. Once level 1 is complete (with any luck!) It will be time to pick up the phone and start to ask around for some work experience.
