Language and Business/Politics?

Hello!

I'm interested in studying Spanish at university, but I'm having trouble deciding whether I should take it joint with Business or Politics - or simply just do a single honours degree.

Business is appealing to me as it is practical and would allow me to understand the business world - in turn making it easier for me to get a job. However, I have never studied business before and I am worried that I may not enjoy it or may find it too challenging.

I am more keen with the International Relations side of Politics - learning about global issues etc. and I worry that I would get bored during the more local and regular side of the degree. My subject combination also doesn't have any subjects like History or Economics that reflect an interest in Politics.

I would love it if anyone could give me their opinion on which course the prefer, or which they think it more suitable for me? Any thoughts and opinions are welcome!

Thank you!

Hi there,

There will no doubt be lots of courses available across the UK that include many of the subject areas that you have expressed an interest in but one example that may include elements of Spanish, Politics and History is the dual honours degree in Hispanic Studies and Politics at The University of Sheffield.

It's a four-year course which provides the opportunity to study a wide range of theories related to contemporary issues, political theory and the discipline of political studies, alongside the language, society, literature and thought of Spain and Latin America.

The course provides an opportunity to understand, speak and write a very high standard of Spanish, as well as the study of modern Spanish and Latin American society, culture and history. Our students gain a range of personal transferable skills, including communication and presentation skills, working in groups, writing reports and essays, gathering information and planning projects.

With the business course you'd probably have a strong influence on economics etc., but you'd also have to do subjects like finance, marketing. But I guess in your last year you can specialise to concentrate more on politcs-y subjects.

Is there not an option of politics as a joint offer? Maybe economics only might be an option you could look into too.
