rehabilitation would involve making them hirable, what did you think I meant by that word?

No it wouldnt? No one in their right mind is going to hire a murderer, rapist or what have you. and the point of 'rehab' is so they dont do it again not so theyre a becon for being hired.

do you honestly believe that half of these people can be rebhabed? simply look at the reoffending stats and youll see anyone whos on long terms [aside from the fact theyve almost certainly committed a heinous crime] dont do well when released... if you spend that long in the prison system how exactly do you think they can reintergrate into society and why society would accept them? would you like a murderer living/working next to you? As the saying goes once a cheater always a cheater it applies quite well here... once a criminal always a criminal especially when they have no hope of living a normal life after release...

Exactly the point I wanted to make, prison doesn't rehabilitate anyone, it's an expensive ineffective system. Also your saying is pretty ridiculous. People make mistakes and deserve second chances.

shooting some one, raping women, terrorism... these are just some crimesoff the top of my head that arent just mistakes and do not deserve a 2nd go atit, people know the law if they choose to break it then its their problem and fault when they have to pay their dues..

That may be but do you have a better one? should someone who goes into a store and shootsthe store keeper for petty cash just be let free because prison is expensive? it may well be a crappy system but its the onlyone we have short of disposing of them... although the idea of dumping them on an island in the middle of nowhere sounds quite appealing, no?
