Becoming a Psychologist

Hi

I was wondering if it is possible to become a Psychologist with just an A level? I would like to know before taking the course as I don't plan to go to university.

Thanks

I don't think so, you'll have to go to uni. First you need to get a degree in psychology with a uni that is recognised by the British Psychological Society & then most likely go on to do a postgraduate course. But psychology students might know about that in more detail :P But just doing a psychology A level won't suffice.

After some research I found out that being a psychologist involves dealing people with Dementia.

Are there any roles that do not involve dealing with people with these disorders but instead deal with Depression/Anxiety?

Thanks

i want to be a psychologist too, i think it depends what type of psychologist you specialise as
You can't become a psychologist without a degree I'm afraid.

You first require a Psychology undergraduate degree accredited by the BPS.

Following your degree you'd need a clinical psychology doctorate. These are regarded as hugely competitive (one may argue more competitive than medicine). Due to this competitive element, most students take a year out of education doing an assistant psychologist role. This helps with the competitive element.

With regards to the question of dementia, one qualified as psychologist it is possible to specialise in certain areas. This can be anything - I one met a psychologist specialising in hoarding junk.
