What would you LIKE to do now?

What would you be doing if that result was different?

I was hoping to save up for a masters by working in the industry.

I cant do that now. Majority of masters courses require 2.1. Not to mention how hard it will be to get a job now.

Dont get upset about it , accept it and try and think ahead now.
Its not the end of the world , you can do a MSc still and try and get a better grade. It may not be a top tier university but this is still an option.

Or if this is not the right career for you , you can always do other stuff perhaps improve your CV and get some valuable work experience and try an enter graduate schemes/ apprenticeships .

Have you spoken to your tutor or anyone from your university careers service? They should both be able to help understand what your options are around postgrad study and your careers service should also be able to help you to sell yourself well with the degree you've got.

Plus they will BOTH know people who've got 2iis (and lower) in the past and managed to go on to find work and get where they wanted to be.

The problem is that I've been contacting many companies and hospitals about work experience and no one will take me on.

I just contacted my course director. I'll let you know of the reply
As Retroandbeyond, a Master's is still an option.

I know there is at least one university which does a MSc in Pharmaceutical science which only require a 2:2.

Unfortunately, getting a 2:2, especially at this time, is bad news. It will make things more difficult and you may have to settle for less. But try not to worry, concentrate on getting as much experience anywhere you can in anything that relates to where you want to go. Look for volunteer internships in anything related to science or even marketing, and you may find a way in through business experience.

Then i would suggest you start thinking of another career as a back up plan now that you could go into , apprenticeships are a great option, you just need to plump up your CV with valuable experience.
These careers may be worlds apart but its still a job and you can work your way up. Things like marketing and accountancy in particular are great.
My cousin was in the same position but he decided to do accountancy and managed from his good alevels to get into deloittes apprenticeship scheme .
Obviously when you are making a new career decision , you need to take your time so dont rush into it .

definitely start contacting your careers service then - they'll be able to offer you help with the letters/emails your sending out, interview practice and help with where to look for jobs. They might even be able to put you in touch with some graduates from previous years who got a similar result to see if any of them can offer you advice (and reassurance).

So I just looked over my modules and I realized on one module I was one mark away from a 2.1. If I got a2.1 in module it would make the difference between 2.2 and 2.1

Should I appeal?

But I presume this wasn't recent - in this economic climate, I'm not sure a 2:2 would cut it with a multinational firm like KPMG :s-smilie:

Again that is true... but KPMG are known for recruiting people with poorer grades who show 'business acumen' though that probably changed at the start of the current recession...

She started in Audit and then became a tax specialist but retired after my little brother was born. All her colleagues that started out with her and stayed in are partners now though - but most left to go into more lucrative financial jobs

definitely, what do you have to lose if you do?

^How do I go about appealing?

Do I just tell them that I think my grades were wrong?

What kind of reason should I give?
Keep your head up mate, you'll do it. You'll get to where to want to be.

Speak to either your tutor or your student union/guild. Noone on TSR can advise you about this because it's about navigating the bureaucracy of your university.
