Help-still waiting on nursing placement

Hi all,

I am at Birmingham City University studying Bsc (hons) adult nursing I'm in my first year transitioning to
2nd.

As part of that transition you are required to carry out two
placements on a ward-which I have done the first.

However on my first
gastro ward at Queen Elizabeth Birmingham hospital my mentor struck one of my
patients (who was a guy with learning disability) after he accidently hit
her-gently, but firm by accident when showing he didn't want his bed to be
changed. Which wouldn't normally be an issue, however the nurse decided to
carry on out of his distress.

I informed the university who informed the
trust, from this I was removed from the trust while it was investigated.
However, since then the university have since been unsuccessful in
allocating my 2nd and most important placement for me to progress and
while waiting for this placement have been forced to defer!

I am still
waiting for the university to allocate a placement and are yet again being
forced to defer again!!!

What I am supposed to do??

THANKS X

P.s To all you nursing folk all there I strongly suggest
you keep your eyes shut to abuse as it gets you nowhere! Sad to say it as no-one deserves to be treated in this way especially considering you are at your most vulnerable in hospital... :-(

OP, I've sent you a pm with some more detailed stuff in it.

I disagree here. While I understand what has happened here is unfair, the vast majority of people go into nursing to make a difference to their patients. We go into it because we care about the people we look after. Abuse unfortunately happens, however when it does we should be taking a zero tolerance stance here. OP has done their part here by reporting it, I'd expect any student to report something like this, however the university has failed in their part of the deal supporting her. If anyone else reading this has ended up in this situation I'd strongly suggest seeking support from your union, be it the RCN or Unison so that something can be done about it.
