You know this worlds effed up when you see guys cover the walls of their student digs with pictures of porn stars and the girls compete with each other to see who can go the farthest with the most guys.

Isn't anything such as self-respect anymore, Lord help us

It's reading threads like this that only makes it sink in even more about how much of an outcast I am going to be at uni

Word of advice...don't whore yourself out in order to 'fit in'

there is a table for this somewhere...
Well sometimes before uni some girls are very innnocent and naive, but as soon as university and freshers hype takes over them, they go off the rails. Ive seen a few cases at my uni. You would have never thought that about them when you first met them :frown:

Do you go to Uni to get laid on a daily basis, or do you go there to get an education?
Abit of both tbh for the majority of students

Because sex is the last thing I'll be doing at uni ... and I can't relate to anyone my age. :frown:

Sigh. I want to believe you, but everything I've seen points otherwise. I'm not even going to go to Freshers' Week. I'm just going to be that weird girl who's always by herself who doesn't have any friends or get any attention at all.

Well it sounds like you're kind of forcing yourself into that role. :s-smilie:
If you really don't want to be that girl then do to freshers and try to socialise.
I have never seen anyone decide to not be friends with someone because they were a virgin.

So what, you're going to assume that NO ONE is going to relate to you or think badly of you before you even go there?

jeez, you're hardly losing out by going there and finding out by yourself

I'm sure it's been said a million times before, but there is more to Freshers' than going out all the time. If you're staying in halls you'll have a ready made group to hang out with for the first few weeks and I would really recommend joining any societies that interest you and just making small talk with people in your tutorials.

Once Freshers' week is over, you'll have plenty time to gradually settle and meet people.

I had a really bad time at uni but I made some friends with the people that I lived with and a couple of people who were in all my classes. I find it really hard to relate to people as well, and I was a bit older when I went there so I felt like I had less in common, but just look at it as a an opportunity to find some people like you and enjoy your interests.

Lol well I'll be one of the weirdos who is actually there because I really want a degree
Obviously I'm hoping to make friends and go on nights out etc but the only sex I'll be having is with my boyfriend of one year. We're not doing long distance because I'm staying in my home city anyway.

I couldn't care less about my sex life to be honest I'm going to university to study! Of course I'll want to make friends and will go out during freshers, but not to get laid... Honestly though this thread has scared me since I'm one of those 'naive and innocent' ones as someone said. Hoping to stick to my guns and be myself instead of trying too hard to fit in.

Aha same!! I'm really not the kind who goes into uni thinking of getting laid. I'm actually more worried about my education. Obviously will go out and socialise and have fun. Don't worry and be yourself  I wouldn't have sex just to fit in, don't really care what other people think.

Reading that just extinguished my last bit of hope, really crushing. Wise words though. :frown:

Why does being horny/having sex equal not having self-respect? I hate that kind of thinking. People can do what they want with their bodies. Sleeping with lots of people doesn't mean you respect yourself any more or less. Letting social values prevent you from following your desires shows a lack of self-respect.

Yeah I don't think I would ever do that- I'm more worried about drinking which I'm not really into, and trying to stick to my beliefs on that  Thanks for the advice and good luck!

There's nothing to be worried about in drinking. If you don't want to drink you don't want to drink... you can still have fun without drinking at clubs or parties  thanks

i've only ever heard of guys wanting to go to uni to have sex, somehow their need for sex affects which uni they will go to rather than the quality of a course.

i'm sure there will be some girls that act the same though.
