Will universities make more offers following abolition of Jan exams in the next academic year?

Without January exams it will be harder to achieve the highest grades as many students sit exams in January to reduce the workload in the summer or even resit AS exams. It also gives students two chances to achieve top grades in some A2 exams.

So without them, surely universities will be anticipating a higher proportion of students to miss their offers than normal so would this lead to more offers being handed out?

Probably/possibly?

Contrary to popular belief on TSR, ABB vs AAA doesn't always necessarily reflect on some vastly superior and more difficult degree and is just as often used to filter down the number of applicants due to the popularity of a course/uni - it's AAA because there's more than enough people with AAA willing to apply. Politics at Aberystwyth and Durham are the commonly cited go-to examples. The former is considered to be up there as one of the world's best departments, the latter is a bit of a joke by Durham's reputation and standards, yet one wants BBC because it's literally in the middle of nowhere while the other asks for three A's due to its much hyped reputation as an Oxbridge-reject uni.

Assuming the average grade drop is statistically significant, unis will lower their offers. Saying that though, it's going to take a while for them to adapt, so expect to see a lot of scrambling about during clearing.
