Confused about which University is better for Engineering

Dear Members,

I'm torn between which University would be better for a course in Mechanical Engineering. My A-Levels weren't amazing so I plan to do a foundation year for engineering and then moving up to a better University if I do well enough. I'm going to apply to either Brunel or Greenwich for the foundation year.

On the rankings list, overall, Brunel is doing better and is at rank '44' whereas Greenwich is at '95'. Source: http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings

Specifically for Mechanical Engineering the tables seem to turn drastically: Brunel is ranked '35' whereas Greenwich is at '26'. Source: http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings?s=Mechanical+Engineering

It seems that if I wanted to stay in one University and do the full four years there I would be better of with Greenwich. Whereas if I wanted to do just a foundation year and then move up to a better University I would have to pick Brunel as it is higher in the overall rank which would make it look better to other Universities.

Am I correct in thinking this way? Does anyone do Mechanical Engineering at either of these Universities? What's it like?

Thank you for your help,
SomeSlyGuy.
Those newspaper league tables mean absolutely nothing and are almost completely useless. Brunel is the far better options for mechanical engineering regardless of what some journalist says.
