Capped mark at 50% - question

dear all,

I've one simple question 'cause I'm not quite sure how it is calculated:

I was referredd in an assignment (20% of the module mark) and it says "capped at the 50% pass mark of the assignment"

Does that mean if I get (e.g. 60%) on the assignment that I'm only awarded with a final 10% for the assignment?

Can some of you explain how capped assignments are calculated?
no guess at all, even if there 45 views in a short period of time? :wink:

please shortly post your opinion; I really need a reply.
Hi, I'm not inuni yet and could be totally wrong but doesn't a 'capped' mark mean that you will only get that grade? Say your work was worth a 60% but its capped at 50% then it will only show up as a 50% if you pass. I hope I have understood the question correctly?
I thought it meant you can only get 50% in that assignment. I could be wrong lol.

Call X the percentage you actually get in the assignment.
Call Y the percentage you are awarded for the assignment.

If X>50%, Y=50%
If X<=50%, Y=X

So, if you got 60%, you would be awarded 50% for that assignment. It just means that if you get more than 50% in that assignment, they won't award you anything more than 50%. If you get lower than 50% your awarded grade remains the same.

I agree to this as 100% correct. I have a question though, is the term "capped" used in both British and American English?
