Book Publishing?

I've been looking around and I've been thinking. If I don't become a fully qualified English Teacher, then I would turn myself to publishing.

But, I've been looking on the internet, and it just seems so hard to get a job with this job. I would like to be an Book/novel Editor. I obviously know you'd most likely start with being an editor's assistant.

Before this though, I'd hopefully go on some summer camps for graduates such as publishers like HarperCollins and Penguin.

My main question is how do you actually become a book editor? What is the job actually called, where you'd want to edit other people's novels, read them and edit them? Is it just called a 'book' or 'novel editor'? I know there's so many publishing companies out there, but how do you know they are the real ones as many websites don't offer 'job vacancies'!

How do you actually a get a job being a book editor?
