Here's a list of what I would recommend you bring:
Minimum of what you should take with you:
Laptop/Desktop PC
Speakers
Clothes
Dressing gown
Slippers
Coat hangers
Shoes for all occasions
Sentimental/personal things like photos to make you feel at home
Printer if you already have one
Toiletries
Important documents: all forms of ID that you possess, medical documents, student finance stuff, letter of acceptance, grade certificates, private health insurance details if you have it etc.
Board games if you have any
Suitcase/holdall for trips home
Decent sized rucksack/shoulder bag to take to lectures/library
Things you can either take with you or buy when you get there:
Bedding (including a decent mattress protector)
Stationery:
3 lever arch folders (one for each term)
subdividers to separate the units
plastic wallets
A4 lined paper
Biros
Highlighters
Post-its
Sticky index tabs
Student planner (highly recommend the palgrave one)
Drawing pins
Stapler
Hole punch
Printer (if you want one)
Plain A4 paper
Kitchen stuff:
If you don't plan on doing a lot of cooking:
Baking tray
Tin foil
Spatula
Cling film
Saucepan
Big spoon (plastic and metal are easier to clean than wood)
Frying pan
Colander
Cheese grater
Tin opener
Lunchbox
Tea towels
Sharp knife
Cutlery
2 plates
2 bowls
4 glasses
2 mugs
bottle opener
Additional things to get depending on how much cooking you intend to do:
Sieve
Apron
Mixing Bowl
Vegetable peeler
Casserole dish (come in handy for pasta bakes)
Plastic containers for storing/freezing leftovers
Rolling pin
Cake tins
Biscuit cutters
Muffin tray
Wok
Whisk (I took an electric one that my parents didn't need)
Blender
Panini press/toastie maker/george foreman
There's no point in taking a toaster or kettle unless you're in a studio flat or you want one in your room because even if they aren't provided, your flatmates are bound to bring them and if not then you can just go out and get them for under £10 each from argos.
Food/Drink:
Squash (if you're like me and hate drinking water)
Mixers
Booze (probably best to keep spirits in your room until you build trust with your flatmates)
Pasta
Jars of pasta sauce/pesto
Instant noodles
Bread
Butter
Milk
Cereal
Oven chips
Beans
Coffee and tea bags if you drink tea/coffee
Salt
Pepper
Sugar
Cooking oil
Condiments (ketchup, mayo.. etc.)
Household:
Loo roll
Loo cleaner fluid
Fabric softener
Liquitabs (better and less mess than washing powder in my opinion)
Washing up liquid (probably best that you take it in turns with your flatmates to buy it so you don't have 5 bottles at once)
Sponges
Kitchen Roll
Other:
First aid kit- plasters, ibuprofen, cold and flu tablets, savlon
Tissues
