Revision guides are a big factor - the first time around I got a D in English language but then I borrowed this really good revision guide and within a few months I got my A.
With your maths try using mathswatch and get tuition because maths is one of those subjects that you can't pass on your own.
Past papers, revision guides and tuition is all you really can do to prep for an exam.
