Which degree ? University of London OR QM,University of London

Hi guys ,

I've been accepted to study at Queen Mary,University of London and I'm in the process of pre-enrolling and they are giving me a choice of degree awards.
Either University of London with the UofL logo or Queen Mary,University of London with Queen Mary's logo.

I will be studying French with Business Management from the 16 th of September and I have until December to decide.
Which one would you choose ? I think UCL and LSE have their own degrees. From an employers point of view, which degree award would you choose ?:colondollar:

I would choose Queen Mary and the reason for that is because anyone who knows what the University of London is, will know that its a huge federation of unis and many of them have different standards. If you were to say University of London on your resume, the employer might think you tried to hide the college because it is a lower ranking school. They would assume you went to the worst London school. So its better to just say QMUL.

Now about the degree thats up to you. No matter what degree you get you can choose what to write on your resume. The physical degree is just a picture really. Choose the one you want, in most cases it'll only be for you.

Thank you ! Yes thats what I was thinking because I just saw the profile of someone who had graduated from the 'University of London' and I did think ,"Yeah but which Uni ?" so I chose Queen Mary,U of L. It makes more sense.

Isn't QMUL like the worst of the proper UoL unis anyway? Everything else is pretty niche if extremely acclaimed stuff that will need the UoL backing, such as say London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. But yeah, go for a QMUL degree, because not to say it's a bad uni, quite the opposite, just that otherwise it kinda sounds like you're trying to sneak it in with the likes of UCL.

There are no "poor" University of London members. Most are specialist institutes such as Heythrop, London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Institute of Education, and the Royal Academy of Music. They might not be well known outside their specific disciplines, but well known within them.

I wasn't saying that some members were "poor". I was just saying that some were better than others aka (Good, Great and Best). Some are just better than others like Goldsmiths is no LSE or UCL and everyone knows that and there is an appreciable difference between UCL and Barts's entry standards and SGUL for example.

Given your degree subject no employer will give a toss one way or another.
First they will check you have a 2.1.
Then they will check if you meet their UCAS tariff, if they have one.
They might also, for some positions, check whether your degree subject is suitable.
Then you get to fight it out in in interviews and assessment days.

I opted for a 'Queen Mary, University of London' degree award, for the sole reason that the more reputable members of UoL award their own degrees too. I agree with the first response on this thread; that is, if you were to simply state 'University of London', it may indicate to employers that you attended a lower ranking school and are in fact trying to disguise this.
