Thermodynamics in Chemical Engineering?

I know all unis teach thermodynamics in a chemical engineering course but what are the practical uses of thermodynamics in chemical engineering?

Thanks
Well I'm not a chemical engineer, but at a basic level, you have to know stuff about yields, feasibility and rates - you want the most product in the shortest time, and thermodynamics will be important to calculating how to achieve this.

Well a quick example, you can not do distillation efficiently without knowing equilibrium, bubble and dew points.
