Is freshers week any good?

Looks pretty crap compared to the other universities, is it good? What events would people recommend (if any)?
Anyone?

Like anything, it is what you make it.

I'm not even there yet and I worked that out. The biggest of parties is going to be honestly pretty boring if you sit by yourself and don't socialise with anyone.

I'm going to anything free and anything where I think I might make friends.

I really recommend going to the freshers fair...FREE FOOD!!!!
I know it sounds sad but I went to the Barn Dance in my first year and had a great time.

Buy yourself a checked shirt and you'll fit right in.

Freshers is alright, Sussex has been voted top for nightlife down south. Anyways, i didn't find it that great, it does take me a long time to settle so that might be it. Plus the culture doesn't appeal to me get pissed and not remember a single thing the next day.

Although i did meet a few people, but it's hard to socialize in an unknown environment. The people i have met were great, i even got invited to their house party.

Call me wierd, but i fancy talking to other people over a cup of coffee/tea and talk about events happening in the real world not what happened last nigh. Sussex lacks this. It's a party everyday.

So in conclusion the freshers week is alright, depends on the person.

I'm in the middle of it, I think its overrated. Having said that I haven't found a decent wingman.

It's dependant on where you are and who you're with.

I've been to crap clubs with awesome people and made the most of it. Similarly I've been to 'top rated' clubs with not so great people and it's been awful. It really is what you make it, but I find a lot of people try TOO hard to live this 'Fresher's expectation' but it won't always be fun and games!

I can speak collectively from myself and my housemates thoughts. Sussex freshers is hit and miss. The barn dance was fun, as was the welcome party which rocked! The thing about Sussex is, we have brighton right on our doorstep. So the partying simply doesn't really stop. Whereas at other universities (Warwick and nottingham I know for sure) they have wicked freshers because the nightlife in their cities is lacking. When I say there are loads of clubs or pubs and bars in brighton, there really is something for everyone. We all agreed in the end we found it a bit hit and miss because we have nights on at clubs every single day of the week.

Think of it as a trade off. You get a slightly lacking freshers, but a bloody amazing club and nightlife throughout the rest of your stay. (All night buses to the university is a massive perk too :P )
