Well the course that i have been offered through clearing is healthcare science (physiological science) and the person who interviewed me said that the course is not funded through NHS so I automatically assumed that student finance would cover my tuition fees. But then i also found out that student finance only covers my accommodation and maintenance not the actual course. so i contacted them (student finance) to see the problem and they said that NHS should proved me with the loan so I got confused. I called the nhs and they said that my best option is student finance since they don't fund my course. So i called the student finance again and they said that they will get back to me tomorrow with this situation. So atm I dont have a loan for my course and i have nothing to do but wait. what course are you doing??? (Sorry, its quite a long text. i've been dealing with this problem since friday:frown:)

Hi,

I really wouldn't sweat it. Student finance can definitely give you a loan for the course. (I am In going into my 3rd and final year :confused: haha ) just make sure that when u completed your ucas you asked for a loan to cover the course you were going to start. NHS doesn't give us a bursary like the do for GEPs and physios etc its just sucks but we have to deal with it. I would just ring up the uni that you have applied to and tell them that student finance are saying you may not get a loan and they should be able to help you out if their current cohort of students all did receive a loan from student finance. Hope I helped and If anyone has any questions to ask then feel free to message me or reply to this post. Word of advice tho;

-Fist year placement is fine. Not that many weeks. according to the department of health every uni should have 10weeks in 1st year, 15weeks in 2nd year and 25weeks in 3rd year. Depending on which uni you go to the placement blocks will be varied. first year u learn all about the body systems usually, second year you specialise a bit more (cardiac ir respiratory&sleep) 3rd year is pretty much placement where you learn more indepth stuff. DONT think that you are going to be like every other uni student because you wont be! You have to be up for placement early at times which means foregoing nights out with friends or risk turing up hungover and talking to patients (which I love :biggrin: ) (this mainly an issue in 2nd year because you have more placement weeks ..3rd year shouldn't be as bad because everyone has dissertations.)

Its a fun course. Im hoping to do medicine next year or the year after so and it is a great degree to have behind you as you have had SO much exposure in clinical settings and have a much better idea of what you are getting yourself into. More than the MBBS5 medics that started at 18 and GEPs who may not have had that much exposure.

Good Luck !

Woahhh loool that's confusing. Nop student finance covers your tuition fees defo unless you're going Swansea which is NHS funded. So I've got UWE, I'm hopefully gonna get my tuition fees covered by student finance once they finally get around processing my evidence and along with maintenance grant. Btw stay clear from the maintenance loan. You shall be forever broke trying to pay the tuition alongside the other loan! I dunno why they told u they'd cover the grant but not the actual tuition, they must be confused :/

Yaaa this is just beyond confusing, i just have to wait till tomorrow deal with this i guess. And thanks for the advice, i will try to stay clear from the maintenance loan:smile:. All this uni stuff just seems stressful and sudden and I've been busy sorting this mess out that I haven't had a chance to look at the accommodation yet. Have u found a place a live??? (if u don't mind me asking)

Also there's loads of groups on Facebook to do with southampton uni so I basically joined all of them :P

I went for self-catered, ensuite! are you going to be studying at southampton too? :smile: I haven't yet but thinking of buying the outgoing masterpass one, you?

Yeah I'll be at southampton! :smile: I applied for premium ensuite and I've ended up in monte 4 in Wessex lane, apparently everyone should get their offers in the next 2 weeks. I think I'll get the outgoing one too but wanted to make sure other people were getting that one:smile:
