Sociology or Marketing?

I'm interested in both! I take sociology at a level but I've heard it's a soft subject and I won't get a good job :/
I've been looking at uni's like surrey, sussex and manchester for sociology and hull and reading for marketing :/ Entry requirements are much lower for sociology :/
I'm interested in both so which one has better job prospects? I'm indecisive and I honestly don't know what career I want to go into :s
Is it better to do consumer behaviour and marketing at reading or sociology at surrey? D:
Thank youuu :-)

Sociology will be FAR more use to you than a niche degree like Marketing.

What most mainstream employers are after is a 'graduate brain', not specialist subject knowledge. Big companies recruit 'graduates - any discipline' and train them in the specifics of that job. They are not really that interested in vocational degrees.

Sociology will leave many, many more doors open to you than doing something mickey-mouse like Marketing. If Sociology is the subject that interests you and will sustain your interest and enthusiasm for 3 years, its a much better choice.

What are your predicted grades?

Go for Sociology a a first degree - with those grades you should certainly be aiming at an academic subject, not vocational.

With this basis you could then do a postgrad course in Marketing or go for graduate entry jobs in this area. Also, if you read the course descriptions for Sociology, you may find that some include relevant optional units in marketing etc.
