Aah ok. So if Im in Sixth year doing advanced highers now any offer will be conditional? also do they ask for specific subjects do you know? Or is it just grades in any of your subjects.

I don't think many unis ask for specific subjects in sixth year unless you didn't do bio or chem in fifth year.
It says on the website conditions will probs be an A and B at advanced highers!
Also not everyone sits three advanced highers so it will just be based on the subjects they sit.

Guys, how exactly does PBL differ from CBL? Problem based learning and Cased based learning

I thought PBL used medical cases as problems...

Can someone please clarify?

PBL uses scenarios that have a little clinical info in them. You come up with questions to answer as a group then go off individually and find out the info. The focus is the normal anatomy, physiology, biochemistry etc with little emphasis on the clinical case.

CBL is a purely clinical case with the pathology and the sessions are taken by a specialist clinician. It is assumed that you know what's normal and focuses on the disease process, clinical signs and symptoms, investigations to make a diagnosis and then what treatments and drugs that are needed/used for the patient. All the answers are arrived at by the group at the time as you are supposed to have the knowledge to work it all out by this stage.

Anyone know if any interviews are left?

I haven't heard anything from Glasgow yet. Anyone in the same situation?

Hey, I've applied for Medicine for 2014 entry however, having not heard from any of my medical applications yet I'm considering my options for next year. I just want to know if you have any knowledge on what the circumstances are for me if I were to reapply next year after taking a gap year and working in a hospital / whatever if I get three As in August for my A2s? Is that a good idea or should I take my plan B which is a offer from UCL for pharmacy? Medicine is really what I want to do but dont want to chuck away a good place like UCL.

If you have any experience of this situation or know anyone who has please let me know. I really like to find out what chance I have if I do get 3 As in August and reapply next year. I got 3A*s, 8As and 2 Bs for GCSE.

Thankyou friend (: Im just a bit concerned because like 80% of teachers in my school dont really care about Advanced Higher, so i dont know how well im gonna do. Hopefully I should be able to get an A though. Thanks.

Think of it as good practice for uni, when your teachers give you almost no help at all (relative to school) and don't particularly care how well you, personally, do in exams...

Well I'm a reapplicant and I got A*AA at A Level. I think it's definitely been worth my while reapplying because I got 4 interviews this year and last year I didn't get any! This is mainly down the my massive improvement in Ukcat though. But I would say if medicine is really what you want to do and you get 3As this year, a year out would be a good idea! You should hopefully still receive another offer for your pharmacy next year but I'm not sure about that so you would need to check that out yourself! But don't lose hope yet! It's not over til it's over!

P.s some Uni's actually give you more points for academics if you have achieved a levels e.g queens belfast give you full marks for academics if you have already achieved 3As at a level!

Thank you so much for your reply. you've been super helpful! I definitely need to improve my UKCAt - its probably why I haven't got any interviews yet. To be honest Ill be more shocked if I did get an interview with my score. good luck with your applications.

Oh what is it you did in your year out?

Well unfortunately Glasgow invite to interview purely based on the UKCAT (it's one of the ukcat heavy unis other than Southampton, Newcastle/Durham, Kings etc.) and the cut-off this year is pretty high, definitely over 700 so for Glasgow it's highly unlikely to get an interview at this stage as most were in December and the reason for those in January is because they either couldn't make it in December or they are part of some additional scheme.

I know I sound blunt but it's important to know where you stand. I hope the rest of your choices go well.

Don't worry about it!
Do you mind if I ask what you got? I improved mine from 580 to 780 so anything is possible! Lol
Well I've started a job as a Healthcare assistant in jan but I obviously didn't get to put that in my personal statement and I was only able to mention it in one interview because 3 of mine were in December. But yeah I've been working as a carer for my grandmother and I'm a volunteer in a nursing home and a centre that helps disabled adults get qualifications etc and a couple of other wee things volunteering wise!
All I would say is it can be quite depressing in September when all your friends go off to university and sometimes I get really jealous of them all but I don't regret doing it one bit!

Good luck

No, that might have been an advanced higher offer though.
