The incompetence of the left in the face of globalisation is causing this IMHO.
The story, linked by the OP, is absolutely typical of the BBC. The article opens by telling us about the centre-right victory which is immediately followed by a reference to Anders Breivik. Presumably the BBC are trying to show that people who vote for right of centre parties are people like Anders Breivik.

Disgusting journalism.

It's probably worth mentioning that this seems to be a big story in international media - that is, that many of them report it in a similar fashion. So I'll make a wild guess at copy-paste journalists looking for a quick bonus.

It's utter nonsense. Everyone practically saw this coming for years.

Very poor journalism indeed.
It's not so much a rise in the right, more a rise in parties that use populist rhetoric are present an image of themselves as being in some sense 'anti-establishment'. In some European countries, such as Spain, we're seeing big rises in support for left-wing parties. Plus there's the Five Star Movement in Italy, which is almost impossible to pin down whether it's left or right.
