So far I have completed the Situational Judgement Testing stage.
How long do they take to get back to you?

It took them a week to get back to me. I had my role play on friday they got back to me the following friday. And then arranged an interview with the manager for today. I had a phone interview though because I live quiet far away from the branch at the moment.

I've never had a group interview.
They tell you if you've passed the stage straight after and then you have to wait a couple of days for them to get back to you if you got the job or not good luck.

When I had my assessment there were 24 interviewees and 15 places. They ranked us all based on the scores we got from the role play and the top 15 got the jobs.

Weird shift today, 5.30-7.45.
Ok so basically,

Tomorrow i have a role play interview... (obviously very nervous) I was just wondering if i can get any advice on the whole interview. What may they ask? etc etc

Thanks

The role play is very relaxed well mine was. The manager was really friendly and gave prompts. Try to up sell at any given opportunity be friendly warm smile etc.. basically what you would expect from a good sales assistant.

For the questions just expect the usually for example why M&S and not another retailer I talked about how the company is ethical fair trade free range eggs that kind of thing. It's charity contributions etc.. Look up some background info about the company and try to sneak that into your answer. Other questions they asked was stuff like what do you think is good customer service. And what would you expect if you were the customer etc.. It's important to make sure the customers satisfaction is at the forefront of every answer you give. About half the questions focused on customer service questions so make sure you know the qualities that make a good sales assistant. They also said there is a lot of walking and a bit of lifting involve so you have to be reasonably fit and if i think i can cope for that just say you're a regular gym goer and exercise frequently.

Sorry the answer was a bit all over the place I was just saying what I can recall. Also the answers are not necessarily correct it's just what I said.

I was kept on, the only one of 8 people who joined at the same time. :-D

Just prove yourself and be very flexible and they will love you.

I started at M&S for Christmas last year, a few days before Christmas we were told of some permanent jobs we could apply for. Naturally there were loads of interal applicants for these jobs. Those who were successful in their applications were made permanent. Everyone else left on December 31st. The manager at the time said I was 're-employable' which meant should any vacancies arise then he would contact me and offer me the job. I hadn't heard anything by April of this year so just assumed that nothing was happening. At the end of July I got called back and asked to return.

There are some lucky people here who got kept on however me and the rest of the temps did not get kept on, usually after christmas they dont have enough money to spend on staff and also there are people there who work there till they die so usually there are no vacancies at all.

So to answer your questions there are no guarantees to being kept on, if there are vacancies and money available they will spend on getting you to stay on but usually they get rid of your or maybe extend your contract or after easter may call you back, if there are vacancies they may get existing staff to do overtime cause they dont want to spend on keeping someone on.

depends on staffing levels and whether the store can afford to keep anyone on.

good luck with your assessment

Just got a call back from M&S inviting me to another interview for a Visual Merchandising position, very excited about this but was wondering if anyone has any info for the VM interviews? The lady I spoke to on the phone said it was a more specialised interview, as I'd already passed the initial one, and would involve dressing mannequins. Anybody know anything?

Hi guys,
I had an interview with M&S a few days back and passed the roll play and the interview with the manager. They said they'll call me in a few days when a vacancy opens up but I'm yet to get that call although the website says there are loads of jobs available at the store I applied for.

I wanted to know how long do they normally take to get back to you??

It took them 9 days from the time I had my interview to the time they offered me a job.

It was manic today, I started at 7.30, worked until 5.30 as normal on a Saturday then stayed on til 10.30pm for stock take!

I'm due my first pay in October and have been working overtime ever since I started. Does anyone know when the overtime cut off for pay is? As in the latest date my overtime will count towards that month's pay.

Also, assuming I will be taxed etc, how do I go about arranging to get the money I will be taxed back? Is it done automatically or do I have to apply for it?

Thanks
