Philosophy and Psychology, and I didn't like the fact the university was simply a campus almost in the middle of nowhere - sort of near Coventry but almost none of the accommodation was anywhere near Coventry it seemed so you'd never go there (apparently it's not the best/nicect town anyway but I've never been) and then Leamington Spa is nice but it's a good half hour drive - but that's where the students seemed to say they went on nights out and a lot of the accommodation was there. Only transport from the uni campus to accommodation (closest accommodation was apparently about 10-15 minute drive and went up to 35 minute drive at the furthest one away) was buses or taxis and there is no train line - in fact there were huge signs everywhere about some petition to stop a line being built through the area. Presumably there's a line in Coventry or Leamington, but there wasn't a line going through the university area with a small station which I thought would have been really useful for students and would have made it a bit more appealing.

It had some great qualities - really like Leamington Spa and seemed to have some sort of nightlife to it (mainly bars/pubs I think), and the students said the accommodation was nice, just the lack of attached city and distance between everything wasn't for me.

Ps may have got some of those facts slightly off - I'm just remembering what the current students told me and what I read about in the prospectus and stuff.

Makes sense. I've read that Coventry isn't the most desirable location. Nightlife isn't a big deal for me though, which is okay.

Why did you choose Bristol in the end?

I didn't know when I chose either, I did English Language, English Literature and French alongside Maths and Physics! Kinda Eclectic aha.
I've found Cardiff as another but it would have to be the preliminary year course because of the subjects, UCL would be my ideal course so I'll be the same. Taking a gap year and doing A2 Chem and maybe Bio then to get where I want :-)

What was it that got you interested in the subject?

This will seem a bit silly... But I was watching The Butterfly Effect and noticed that his lectures were about the brain. I thought that would be quite interesting to study (at the time there was no university courses I'd found that interested me). So I searched for brain-related courses on the internet and found neuroscience. Started reading up on it and found it really interesting.
What about you?

Just looked at Cardiff by the way, you can get into the 3 year bachelors course but it's unlikely since chem and bio are preferred. Might apply anyway since I'm only applying to 3 uni's at the moment..

Yeah but the nightlife and socialising is meant to be decent even if you did fancy an odd night at the pub or whatever.

It's just mainly the distance between the campus and accommodation that's such a mission, and I wanted a livelier city like Bristol. Bristol fitted the bill perfectly. Everyone I've known who has visited it fell in love. Unfortunately out of 5 of my friends who applied only 1 other got in and two were offered different courses which is a shame as they all had their hearts set - everyone just wants a piece of Bristol!

I've gotten some brochures on the city and I've watched videos on the university. It does sound so great. I was set on Exeter for a bit, but the location of Bristol seems more me. Near other cities, but with enough to do to keep me occupied.

Bristol's not too far from Bath and Cardiff, has everything you need and the option to apply for accommodation right in the city or slightly out (5 minutes on the bus and 30 minute walk) if you'd prefer. I did like Exeter and it was nearly my insurance choice (due to the high offer it wasn't in the end) but Exeter is more of a town. While beautiful, it just doesn't have that extra spark a bigger city does for me.

Mine's kind of a combination of things, I've been watching Perception and before that Lie To Me that are kind of forensic psychology dramas but involve aspects of neuroscience, particularly Perception because the lead character is a professor in neuropsychology! I've been interested in linguistics and English is something I've always been pretty decent at so I was looking at some of the courses for that and found it was the 'brain, communication and literacy' modules that were most attractive so started looking into those and then found The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker and figured out that my granddad (because of a stroke) had had aphasia. From there I was hooked haha, although I did try to look for alternatives because of my subjects and considered physics but I just kept coming back to this!

I must have read it wrong! I'd say it's worth a shot at applying then, I don't know what to do about the extra spaces because some of the cognitive courses or psychology and neuroscience etc ones sound interesting but, it's just not quite the same! I'll probably leave them blank and go for the gap year if it doesn't work out I guess

Applying for Bristol for Chemistry (Mchem) Went to the open day, there facilities were so good, and it seemed like such a vibrant city, although out of all the Unis ive seen so far (Loughborough, York and Bath) they all have there ups and downs, so its hard to make a choice, York seemed really nice, still have to look at Edinburgh and Leeds yet.

Was waiting for one of these to appear  I'm applying for Aerospace Engineering. Just out of curiosity when is everyone else applying?

Hello! I'm applying on October 16th, so the day after oxbridge so they know I'm not applying there, and also in the early batch so that I seem eager
I'm applying to Bristol for the new Anthropology course  love the city, and there's halls RIGHT next to the anthro building which is great for me as I'm terrible at walking short distances. Ahem. haha, heard nothing but great things about bristol city and uni, really hope they make me an offer
I'm applying for geology, not a very subscribed course.

Has anyone finished their PS?

Email the relevant admissions department and ask.

I had a similar query about predicted grades and they got straight back to me with a lovely email!

Applying for Bristol Mathematics 2014, I liked the open day but its my 4th best atm
Just received a reply from the general Admissions Tutor about the email I sent about contextual offers. My school is in the bottom 40% so I automatically get one, tha is, if I get an offer.

Everyone should check, unless you know your school is really good 😊

I'm hoping to apply for Law and study aboard. Have to sit the LNAT though, since Bristol and Birmingham ask for it.

I sent a similar email, and my college is also in the bottom 40%
Hiya, I'm hoping to study Law at Bristol. The course looks amazing! Unfortunately I haven't visited Bristol, but I've heard so many good things about the area. I would definitely prefer to live in catered halls. So I was just wondering what the food and accommodation is like. Ooo and I know that it's quite a strange question, but do people use bikes to travel around, and if they do, are you able to purchase bikes of previous students?

What course are you applying for? And what is the usual and contextual offer? 😉
