Reference and Tutors

Hey guys. I have to say that i want urgently help!(I'm from Greece and i want to study biology at UK). Firstly i'm completing my ucas application but the only thing that stressing me out is the section of reference. In my school we change every year tutors so it's little hard for me to trust for example my new biology teacher and of course he don't even know me. So i think that my english teacher of my private school would be ideal because she knows me like 6 years. However would a english teacher be suitable to give me a reference even if i want to study biology? I mean how can she predict my grades? I'm very confused ! I'm waiting your opinions guys.
My daughter is applying for university this year from Germany, so she is in a similar position to you in that she has to choose someone to write her reference. In the UK, the teacher who writes the reference is expected to gather information about the student from the other teachers, so that is what you should do: ask your preferred teacher (the English teacher) to get the information about your predicted grades from the relevant teachers. That should be fine.

Ucas references in the UK are usually written by all a student's teachers and edited into one by a form tutor or head of sixth form. You need input about all your subjects. In the UK, you are usually taught by the same teacher for your last two years so it's not a problem. Your biology teacher will have to ask your previous teacher's opinion or wait until she has taught you for a long enough period to be able to judge.

Just to clarify: do you then not think the OP could do it the other way round - get the English teacher who knows him best (and presumably has better language skills) to get the info from the other teachers, including whoever teaches and taught him biology?

Certainly. Seems a good idea. Ucas will have no idea how it was done, nor will it matter. He does need an all round view, though.

Thank you guys for your help! Just one question. You mentioned something about the predicted grades. I thought thai i would tell my teacher what grades i think that i will take. Moreover must she predict all the subjects including general education such as history and religious studies ( i think that is not so necessary) or my directionary subjects such as biology and chemestry or the average grade such as 18,5 out of 20?

Since you are not offering A levels, it's best to get in touch with the universities and ask what specifically they need to know about your exams. They will have more understanding of the way Greek qualifications work than we do. Here in the UK, teachers will give a predicted grade for all the subjects the student is taking, and I assume they will want the same from you, but I don't know for sure.

Well the most unis have asked me via emails a specific grade in biology and chemistry so i think that my teacher must predict them

I have a b2 goethe zertifikat in german (upper intermidiate level) do you think that it will give me some positive points?

I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea. I only deal with English students doing English exams, and even Scottish qualifications are a bit of a mystery to me, so all I can say is to ask directly.

Sorry, I'm afraid biology isn't my specialism. I suggest you post in the biology forum.

Lastly as i see that you are ps helper, i'm wondering if i can add a quote in my ps,because a lot of people saying that most unis are bored with the quotes and they prefer not to see them in the pss,is that truth?

It's certainly my view and that of all the ps helpers I've known to voice an opinion on the subject. Use your own words, not someone else's.

The box for the reference is the same size as the one for the personal statement, so 4000 characters and 47 lines apply there too.

Hey! Is there any time limit that the tutor has to put the reference at the application after the student sent it?
