I'm sure you will be fine. How much experience do you have?

Well my personal statement's just deleted itself so life is quite stressful at the moment! I did have a whole paragraph on all my work experience though. I did 10 days in July and phonics teaching and reading one afternoon every week for 2 terms and have more work experience lined up so I think it should be enough. I went to Northumbria open day yesterday and it looks really good!

I know that places like York St John want 20 days before you even apply, which I think is a lot! I really like Northumbria, close to home too

Hi
I'm hoping to apply for primary education with a pe specialism at Winchester, Roehampton, Twickenham, Leeds Met and Newman. The A-Levels I am currently taking are PE, Biology and Geography (and general studies) and my predictions are AAB. I think I've got quite a lot of work experience but haven't put it all in my personal statement as I think universities are looking for the work experience but showing what you have learnt from it. I'm really eager to take my skills tests (just to get them out the way) but I think you can't book or take them until you've sent off your whole application for primary education.
I haven't looked round Leeds Met yet but am going to the open day later this month, if anyone has already been I'd like to know what you thought of it

I've just started my 3 year drama course. I want to be a primary school teacher. There are spaces available on the primary education course at my uni...

Option 1) Transfer to the Primary education degree in Edge Hill and earn Qualified a Teacher Status after the 3 years
+ It's a more direct route to my end game goal
+ I'd be working on a course that directly relates to what I want to do
- I may have to travel to placements in a city I don't know my way around
- I've never worked in a Liverpool school, will it be different?
Option 2) Stick with the drama course (which I do enjoy) and then do a PGCE at the UEA when I graduate?
+ I enjoy the course
+ I would my PGCE in my home town and in an area I'm familiar with
- iTs a longer route to my job
- The teacher training is crammed into 1 year

Big decision and need some opinions and advice!

If your end goals to be a primary school teacher then I would swap courses but that's my opinion. I don't think there would be a massive difference in schools in Liverpool and I really don't think they'd send you somewhere that was impossible to get to.

However, if you were to swap courses it would mean you would have to do your skills tests now as it is a requirement to have passed before you start your course. I would say swap if you want to but it depends if you're ready for your skills tests.

They are interviewing me for a place on Monday! I'm quietly confident, I exceed their UCAS requirements, have just over 1 months experience and got some good references to support me so fingers crossed!
Yeah the skills test is now the only thing that scares me, it seems straight forward and all that, and I'd have a bit of time to revise; but if I transfer then fail the test I'm left in a very awkward position...
Think the course transfer is the best option for my future. Does anyone have anything useful I can use t study for the skills tests?

How did your interview go? What sort of questions did they ask? When do you find out if you got a place? Hope it went well for you 😄

Quick question folks.

After your work experience at a Primary school, Can you please explain the process between gaining your reference and your UCAS application?

Another thing, Who do you ask at the Primary school to give you a reference, The teacher or the head-teacher.

Also, how do you implement it into your application or do you just mention it in the personal statement and you bring a photocopy to the interview?

I am hoping to apply for primary education, just wondering do you have to do the QTS test for every university because on UCAS only some university's say that they require it? Thanks

Every university in England, but it's not needed for universities in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Yes, I know it doesn't make sense, but that's how it is!

Really well I think! We spoke about experience in the class room, working with mixed ability, special education, problems facing teachers now and changes in teaching and about child progression.
We got told to bring a book but everyone else forgot so I didn't get to explain all my ideas and everything for my book! :frown:
There was a subject knowledge test which was really easy grammar, maths and science questions; and then a written task about child psychology.
Should find out any time, they want to start enrolling people tomorrow onwards!
If I'm in, I've got to blitz these QTS tests, really nervous about them!

I took the BFG; didn't even get to mention it! I had loads planned about alliteration in English, changing state in Science, not judging a book by its cover and not having parents for PSGS; stuff about London for History and Sophies dream and imaginary world for Art and Drama s

Hey , just wondering if anyone else was struggling with cutting down their personal statement for primary education , I'm really stuck on what to get rid of and what's the most important things to cover?
Also I'm applying for Leeds met as my first choice as it seems to offer the most but I'm unsure on Bishop grossteste for my second choice ? Does anyone know much about that uni as I can't find much useful information about it? Thanksss

That is such a shame, did they say anything about others forgetting their books? Seems a bit silly that everyone forgot.

I was over the limit on my original draft so had my friends read over it and they found it hard to cut anything out but how I eventually managed to cut it down was rewriting sections. I realised after cutting it down I was quite waffly before so the key thing is to keep it succinct.
I'd also say if anything that you talk about but doesn't directly link to teaching cut it - you have to be harsh when writing.

Have you been to Leeds Met? I'm going later this month and I'm interested what made it stand out for you?
