pA*s or number of A*s

I was wondering whether for medicine, Oxford prefers you to have more A*s, possibly sacrificing a 1.0 pA*, or only A*s but a fewer number. I.e. would they prefer 10 A*s only, or 12A*s, 3As and a B? Thanks a lot.

the 2013 admissions exercise it is intended to use a combination of proportion of A* grades at GCSE and number of A* grades at GCSE (in equal weighting) as a measure of GCSE performance.

Its not entirely clear how this will be implemented on a quantitive level. In the example you give, i suspect 10A* would be better, as 75%A* would put you well below the average for offer holders.

I know the stats, and I'm not trying to argue, but I really don't understand how 12A*, 3A and B is worse than 10A*..
