Do you think more changes are required to improve education overall? If so what changes do you think are needed to ensure the UK comes in the top 3/4

Finland have no school uniform. No league tables. No private schools. That's why they're no.1.

We should eliminate private schools and league tables. We need much tougher GCSEs and year 6 SATs. Gove has the right idea but his methods to accomplish it are beyond ridiculous.

Eliminating private schools would really accomplish nothing, apart when we have to fit thousands of schoolchildren into an already crowded system - they're already complaining about lack of places for primary schools!!

I am skeptical to this. What's the criteria for the ranking? Japan and South Korea might have "good" education systems in terms of academic performance but they also have the world's highest student suicide rate. Surely that says something.

This is nonsense. Why is tougher better?
This is like saying that in order to kill a fire we need more and more wood.

Though school is a big part of them achieving, it's also down to the parents/guardians to do something as well.

This is also to do with culture.... As a Hong Kong student I can safely say the attitudes towards working hard and getting good grades mean conditions for most students are brutal (there are so few places for sixth form only the top fifth or so of students get places). South Korea is even worse.

Unfortunately the UK political climate is (generally) very much about greed, jealously, kicking other people down the ladder in case they kick you off, etc. Students topping themselves would be small peas to beating China in this international competition.

lol politics is pretty much the same in all countries.
6th isn't bad considering students in England are less likely to be castrated for getting a low grade.

That's not bad. Not bad at all.

So we're not in a bad position at all. I think we need to just concentrate back on core subjects.

And vocational training, hopefully.

Sorry. Vocational training of course. Vocational training is key to our recovery.

Not at all. A qualified welder, sparkie or CNC lathe operator is more useful than 10 medja studies graduates.
