adjustment and clearing info of process please

I am trying to understand the UCAS process; how does the process of clearing work, and If a course goes into clearing do the grade requirements need to go down? or can they remain as they were. How does adjustment work?

Clearing:
You receive your results and don't meet your offers. So you look on the clearing page on the UCAS website, where a list of vacant university places are listed. You then apply to these and receive quick responses. I think it's very difficult to find a good course on clearing but very easy to get onto a course if you apply for it.

Adjust:
You receive your results and meet and exceed your offers. For example, if your highest offer is ABB and you get AAB or AAA, you can go into clearing. Once you go into clearing, you have 5 days to contact unis (by email or telephone) and literally ask them for a place. They may have a short conversation with you on the phone or give you an immediate rejection or place. Again, it can be difficult to get into popular courses using adjust. Some unis don't even use adjust or clearing as a matter of policy. If you can't find a new place on adjust, your original offer will still be there for you to accept.
