Help for an Economics graduate

My sister has just graduated from a Bsc in Economics, at Bristol university. She got a 2.2, and thus thought that she wouldn't be good enough for an Msc, nor for investment banking, accountancy, etc. So, she is completely at a loss at what to do next. Any suggestions? I know that it's her decision to make in the end, but it would be great to have some input from other people to get ideas.

well she could retake her last yr at uni, maybe, by being les of an alcoholic and spending more time revising and memorising the indepth knowledge of econometrics and stats:biggrin:    sorry im in a foul mood today, sorry for ur sis:frown:
Does she actually want to do something Economics related or is she open to new ideas? Obviously won't make it into PWC et al but might be able to blag her way into somewhere like Ernst & Young; she did afterall go to a decent university and if she has good A Level grades too...

What is she doing now that she's finishes? Working at woolworths? Watching the tennis on sofa?

A masters at a lower rep but good uni is an option (maybe some unis like QM might consider her).

Training at a small accountanct firm.

Go travelling 'to find yourself'.

Temping then move into a permanent role by proving yourself.

The options are endless...

The thing is, she's one indecisive girl and really doesn't know what she wants to do.... she's open to anything really. She knows the options but really doesn't know where to start.

For A levels she got ABCc, with a C in Economics of all things  The others were in Maths, Biology and Chemistry AS.

Thanks for the input so far.

I would try going into a local accountants and coming through that way. Then going onto a masters after some experience (maybe MBA?) and move upto Big 4 or IB. Alternatively, do a 2nd degree, some places may even give her an exemption from doing 1st year and go straight into 2nd..

When you mention a 2nd degree, do you mean something unrrelated to economics or something similar? Hmm, never considered that.

Thanks again for the input thus far.

Tell her to get her arse onto a graduate training scheme somewhere. Or just a job in the city.

Thanks for thanking the input that has been put in thus far.

Civil Service.

(HM Revenue and Customs for example)
Do a masters degree....and do VERY WELL on that
allot of unis (not top 1 - 10 prolly) will take people with a 2:2.

To the OP what does your sister do now then ???

there is an NHS graduate scheme which allows graduates with a 2:2 to apply. It seemedpretty good. Furhtermore, she could specialise into finance if she gets onto it. check it out.

Feck knows. Anything.

Not having a 2.1+ shuts off a lot of grad scheme options, but lots of very viable options remain. Like:

- All the 2.2+ grad schemes. Lotsa them!
- Study for an ACA (somewhere like BPP) and work part time.
- Join a small finance firm. Or -any- small or medium firm!
- Forces, police, fire etc.
- Teach
- become a nun.
- cashier at Argos?
- nothing
- bum around, travel.

There really are more options which she can do than those she can't!
