yes, sorry i meant we take the main exams at 16 for GCSE and 17/18 for Alevel.

Anyway elhady due to the different exam boards in the UK which have different syllabuses and hence different content, its a bit difficult but heres a random physics paper from AQA this is the first module of AS so is the easiest (supposedly) a level paper. This would be taken at 17 after 6 months or 1 year of study (i haven't done this myself its just the first paper i could get hold of).

The overall AQA page for alevel is:
http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gceasa.html
click the arrow by 'select by specification' to choose different subjects.

The core subject criteria, (stuff that must be included for each exam for any board), which is set by QCA, can be found here, if you want some idea of the level of knowledge expected:

http://www.qca.org.uk/236.html - click on the subject(s) you're interested in, then on the page that appears, click the level of exam (eg GCSE) which you want... should be self-evident really.

Normally, people take about 8 to 12 GCSEs at age 16 after two years of study. The exact number depends on the school and the student. Compulsory subjects are almost always Maths, Science (which can be worth 1,2, or 3 GCSEs), Eglish Language, and English Literature. Usually, a variety of other subjects is taken - eg a humanity, language...

A-levels are taken at age 18, again after two years of study. The most common number is three and a half - ie four AS levels and three A-levels, though some people take more, and some less.

Hope that helps - sorry if that's way more than you wanted to know!
