Mixed signals or am I being stupid?

So back in the summer I started hanging out with this guy. I found out from others that they weren't the sort to 'use' girls which was good because I've had that before and I know they have been hurt before, like me. They then asked me out on a date but we never arranged a particular time and their friend (who's a girl and is really close with this guy) ended up getting involved and stopping this from happening. Which I found out a few weeks ago when I finally went out with him. He acts like he likes me when I'm with him but now it seems to be me doing all the texting etc. I've asked him out again once but he said he was busy that evening so I've just decided the ball is in his court. Is he now listening to this other girl about not seeing me? How long do I wait before I give up? I go home from uni in a week for a month so... :s-smilie:
